Logan County, Kentucky is situated in the southwestern part of the state and is one of the southern tier of counties bordering the northern Tennessee line.  It is bounded on the north by Muhlenberg and Butler Counties, on the east by Warren and Simpson Counties, on the west by Todd County and on the south by Robertson County,  Tennessee.

Russellville, the county seat, is almost in the center of the county. It is 144 miles by railroad southwest of Louisville and 72 miles by rail south of Owensboro, Kentucky. It is 55 miles due north of Nashville, Tennessee. . . . 

Logan County is one of the early counties of Kentucky being the thirteenth of the 120 counties of the Commonwealth. It was originally formed in 1792, the year in which Kentucky became a state. 

Kentucky itself was at first a part of Virgnia. Fincastle County, Virginia, from which Kentucky was formed, was the frontier county of Virginia from 1772 through 1776. By an act of the legislature of Virginia, Fincastle County was dissolved, effective December 31, 1776 and one

Wayne County Record, Jan. 22, 1880, Thursday, Pin Oak Column - Four died in the southern part of the township from diseases during fall and winter. Following are the names of those persons: Wm. Simms, Rebecca Robertson, Mirtle Simms & Levi Burkitt. Mr. Simms and Mr. Burkitt were old men above sixty years of age, while the other two were small children. - Rebecca Jane Robertson, daughter of Dr. Amos Sloane & Sarah (Warren) Robertson. She was born Jan. 18, 1874 and died Oct. 24, 1879. 

February 24, 1881, Ensley Column, John Robertson and wife have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement caused by the loss of their only baby. It was about 3 months old when Jesus called it home.

In the name of God Amen, I Mary Crisel widow of Andrew Crisel dec’d. of Logan County and state of Kentucky being perfect senses and memory do after revoking all other make this my  last will and testament (to wit) I leave my just debts to be paid after which I leave to my daughter Susanna Epley all my clothing, household & Kitchen furniture & one hundred dollars ____  ______ if anything in money.  I leave ____ be equally divided between three of my children namely Susanna Eply, Henry Crisel & Peggy Maulding formally Peggy Crisel.  I leave Jacob Epley my whole & act executor to fulfill this my last will  & testament.  Given under my hand and seal this first day of July one thousand eight hundred & twenty-four.

1736 Nathaniel Royce in Wallingford, CT the husband of Sarah Lathrop, one of his five wives.  They had four children.

1823 Andrew Crissel wrote his will:

In the name of God Amen I Andrew Crisel ___ of the State of Kentucky, Logan County being weake in body but sound in mind, ____ and understanding and in my proper senses but calling to mind the mortality of mankind do think proper to make this my last will and testament after revoking all others after my legal debts are paid 1^st I give and bequeath to my lawfull children to wit, John Crisel, Andrew Crisel, Polly Gouch, Susanna Eppley, George Crisel, Michael Crisel, Henry Crisel, Peggy Maulding to each two dollars and to the heirs of Fanny Maulding dec’d. two dollars.  2^nd I do give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Crisel four notes against John Foulks of one hundred dollars each with all other money and accounts with notes due me together with my household and kitchen furniture to use or to dispose of as she thinks proper, lastly I do appoint Jacob Epply & Louis Marshall my whole executors to fulfill this my last will and testament.  In witness whereas I have here unto set my hand and seal this second day of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty one.

1790 Lincoln County, NC census entry for Andrew Crissel, Sr.  There were 3 males under the age of 16, 3 over sixteen and 4 females.  

The name has been spelled Crisel, Crissel, Crissell, Crysel and Kristle.  Not much is known about Andrew. He was born ca. 1718 possibly in Germany.  He married Mary Miller, the daughter of Michael  in Lincoln County.  They had at least nine children born in North Carolina.  Between 1790 and 1800 Andrew moved his family to Logan County, Kentucky.

Any ideas about Michael's parents? His wife? Andrew's parents?

More than likely, Michael was of German descent and probably a migrant from the Pennsylvania area.
