Disregard of the Law

Feb. 7, 1664/5 William Shurtliff sued Thomas Little for carrying off trees Shurtliff had felled and squared.  Major Alden (some relation to the famous John Alden) and Joseph Beedle were to settle the bounds and Little to return the trees, but final judgment to await the return of the bounds.  

March 7, 1664/5 Constable William Holmes successfully sued Thomas Little for £5 in damages for misleading Holmes into unjustly attaching the belongings of Nathaniel Winslow.

June 9, 1665 Thomas Little fined £1, 10s, "for disclosing grand jury proceedings."

1723 Patience Little, 84 the daughter of Thomas & Ann (Warren) Little.  She was born in 1639.

1815 Zephaniah Lathrop age 69 the husband of Hannah Lathrop.  He was born in 1746.

1857 Mary Lathrop 8 month old daughter of Henry & Rachel (Laws) Lathrop.  She is buried in Prairieton / Lone Tree Cemetery in Lawrence Co., IL.


1865 Vanda Smith 1 year old daughter of Jacob & Margaret (Wood) Smith.  She is buried in Hoosier Cemetery in Clay Co., IL.

In Memoriam March 26th


1653 Joan (Purchase) Capen born ca. 1578 in England.  She married Bernard Capen in 1596 and they had six children: Elizabeth, Ruth, Susanna, Dorothy, John and Honor.  The family immigrated to Dorchester, MA in 1632.

1670 Alice (Carpenter) Southworth Bradford in Plymouth, MA age 80 born ca. 1590 in Wrentham, England the daughter of Alexander Carpenter.  She married Edward Southworth in 1613 and they had two sons Constant and Thomas.  After Edward’s death Alice immigrated to Plymouth, MA where she married Gov. William Bradford in 1623 and they had three children: William, Mercy and Joseph.  She is buried in Plymouth, MA.

In Memoriam March 12th

1671 Thomas Little in Massachusetts age 61, he was born in England ca. 1610.  He married Ann Warren in Plymouth, MA in 1633 and they had eight children: Thomas, Mercy, Ruth, Hannah, Patience, Isaac, Ephraim and Samuel.


1913 Della (Robertson) Baldwin age 22 the daughter of John & Theresa (Herman) Robertson was born in 1890.  She married Charles Baldwin in Wayne Co., IL in 1907.  Della is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.

1966 Hazel (Knowles) Bryan age 76 was born in Clay Co., IL in 1889.  She married Wesley Bryan in 1909.

1985 Reuverta (Wilson) Parkhill, 86, Route 2, Bluford, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in the Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
Mrs. Parkhill was born in Hamilton County April 12, 1898, the daughter of Thomas P. and Mary Etta (Butler) Wilson.  On March 31, 1920, she married John J. Parkhill, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bluford.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bluford Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert L. Shook and Alva Merritt officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery near Bluford.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include one son, Harry A. Parkhill and wife Pauline of Kankakee; one daughter, Mrs. Loren (Fairy) Pilcher of Farina; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Edith Elsie Wilson, and one brother, Horacia Wilson.
Memorials may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, the Mount Olive General Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

1906 Viola Brown in White Co. IL the daughter of Charles & Bessie (Dunn) Brown.  She died in 1997 Fairfield, IL and is buried in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, IL.
