Immigration: 1635 on the Abigail arriving in New England on October 6 after a 10 week voyage. She came with her mother and sister Martha as well as her aunt Elizabeth (Reade) Winthrop the wife of Governor John Winthrop, Jr.  Hannah's brother stayed in England.

1623 - November 20 - Wickford, Essex, England - Edmund Reade, Hannah's grandfather wrote his will, mentioning her parents, brother and herself:

I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law, John Lake, and to my Daughter Margarett Lake, forty shillings apiece to make ym rings, and to John Lake and Anna [Hannah] Lake, theire children, 20

The Minor family in Virginia, with its connections, is one of the most numerous within its boundaries. From the first of the name to the present day its members have been influential in their respective communities, but have shunned office, and hence are as not as well known as many families of less real merit but fewer peculiarities.

The first of the blood in Virginia was Meindert Doodes and his wife Mary Geret: both were from Holland. He was a sea captain who abandoned the sea and settled on the lower waters of the Rappahannock in Virginia, about 1650.  His wife belonged to a family of some social and political distinction in Holland.  The son of Meindert Doodes assumed the name of Doodes Minor - whether the "Minor" was another term for "Junior," or was a corruption of Meindert, does not appear.  Minor Doodes and Doodes Minor were both naturalized in October, 1673, by the same act of the House of Burgesses and by their respective names.  The wills of Meindert Doodes and Doodes Minor are both of record in Middlesex county. By the will of the former he leaves his estate to "his son Doodes Minor."  By the will of Doodes Minor who married a Miss Mantague, a part of his estate was given to his son Geret Minor, whose name was derived from the family name of the wife of Meindert Doodes.  His name was afterwards corrupted into "Garret," and has been extensively used in the Minor family ever since. The first John Minor who was born in 1707, and on the 14th of November, 1732, married Sarah Carr, daughter of Thomas Carr and his wife Mary Dabney. This Mary Dabney was born January 22d, 1685. The estate known as "Topping Castle," on the north bank of the North Anna river, in Caroline county, was given John Minor by his father-in-law Thomas Carr. 2 - Margerie Skynner of Braintree, Essex England wrote her will:

To my daughter Margerie five pounds (and other goods) and to her son John Gill a bullock.  To my son William Skynner five pounds.  

To my son John Skynner twenty pounds.  

To my daughter Rachell five pounds.  I do give and bequeath further to my daughter Rachell three pewter platters of the greater sort and three of the best cushions in the great chamber and my warming pan.  

To Sara Taylcoat a flock bed and a flock bolster, a coverlet and a pair of blankets (and other effects). To Rachell Taylcoate a little kettle of a gallon, a brass pot, a posnet (&c.).

1599 Richard Lake buried in North Benfleet, England.  Richard was the father of at least six children: Richard, unnamed daughter, Margaret, Sybil, Joan and John.

1862 Joseph Waskom age 70 in Indiana.  He was born in Chester Co., PA in 1792 the son of William & Mary (Pierson) Waskom.  Joseph married Sarah Young and they had at least one son, James.  He is buried in Waskom Cemetery in Jackson Co., IN.

 

1881 Nancy (Colclasure) Trinkle age 54 in Clay Co., IL the daughter of John & Rachel (Galbraith) Colclasure was born in Indiana in 1826.  She married Christopher Trinkle and they had five children: Ellen, Anna, William, Rebecca and Robert.   Nancy is buried in Oak Mound Cemetery in Clay Co. IL.

1623 Elizabeth Lake buried in North Benfleet, England,  daughter of John & Margaret (Reade) Lake, she was about 8 weeks old.

1715 Deacon John Loomis age 65 the son of Deacon John & Elizabeth (Scott) Loomis. 

1945 Mary (Gibson) Runyon age 81 in Pewee Valley, KY.  Born in Kentucky in 1863 she was the daughter of William & Mildred (Neal) Gibson.  Mary married Michael Runyon and they had three children: Mildred, Fannie and Ruth.  She is buried in Floydsburg, KY.

2000 Mabel (Franklin) Snell age 58.  She was the wife of Billie Snell and they had at least two children: Kurt and Kim.

1620 Richard Lake buried in Wickford, England.  The son of John & Margaret (Reade) Lake, he was baptized May 21, 1620 in Wickford. 

1695 Sarah (Steele) Judd  daughter of John & Rachel (Talcott) Steele born 1638.  She married Thomas Judd ca. 1658.

1867 Louisa (Draper) Lathrop age 41 in Lawrence Co., IL. The daughter of Thomas & Catherine (Harbert) Draper, she was born in Indiana in 1825.  Louisa married Levi Lathrop in 1842 and they had eleven children: Thomas, Ezra, Nancy, Catherine, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Marion, Emma, Joel, George and Grant.  She is buried in Lone Tree Cemetery in Lawrence Co., IL.

1919 Christina Dempsey age 1 in White Co., IL.  She was the daughter of Warner & Edna (Trapp) Dempsey.  Christina is buried in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, IL.

1983 Mrs. Viola Erkman, 78, of 607 W. Main St., widow of the late Russell Erkman, a former Sims resident, died at 10 p.m. Sunday May 22, 1983 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Erkman entered the hospital last Wednesday after suffering a broken hip at her apartment.  She also suffered from a heart condition.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Oakley Miller officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Erkman was born at Mill Shoals July 7, 1904, the daughter of Gilbert and Amanda (Rodgers) Jackson.  She attended school at Mill Shoals.

She was married to Russell Erkman for over 50 years.  He preceded her in death in 1977.  Mr. Erkman was a construction worker for the railroad.

Mrs. Erkman was a housewife and homemaker and never was employed outside the home.  She moved to Fairfield in 1979 and stayed frequently with her niece, Mrs. Ruth Belangee, of Bonnie.  Mrs. Erkman was going to live with her niece after her release from the hospital.

She was a member of the Sims Baptist Church at Sims.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Bernell Golden, of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Erkman had no children.

1782 Charles Morgan’s probate records were entered in the Culpeper Co., VA court.  Charles was the son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan.  He lived in Fauquier Co., VA and married his wife Elizabeth before 1764. She may have been a Bushrod. 

1876 Mary (Grove) Speer in Oldham Co., KY the daughter of John & Susan (Fox) Grove.  She was probably born in North Carolina ca. 1785.  Mary married John Speer ca. 1806 in Morganton, NC and they had nine children:  Samuel, John, Margaret, Susan, Marquis, Amelia, James, Martha and Julia.  The family moved to Floydsburg, KY ca. 1810.  She is buried in the family graveyard behind her former home in what was Floydsburg, KY.

1591 Elizabeth Lake baptized in Essex, England the daughter of John & Elizabeth (Sandell) Lake.  Elizabeth married 1) Andrew Paschall and had two sons.  Andrew left a will in 1613 which was probated in 1614.  She married 2) John Breadcake and had a daughter.  John died at sea in 1636 while in command of the Thomas on a voyage around Gibralter.  Elizabeth died in 1651 in Essex, England.

1826 Nancy Colclasure daughter of John & Rachel (Galbreath) Colclasure in Indiana.  She married Christopher Trinkle and had five children.  She died 1881 in Clay Co., IL.

1600 Rev. Thomas Lake baptized in Essex, England.  He was the son of John & Elizabeth (Sandell) Lake.  Thomas attended Cambridge University in the 1620s obtaining.  He was ordained priest in 1623.  Thomas died in Essex in 1652.

1582 Thomas Lathrop baptized in Etton, England the son of Thomas & Mary (Salte) Lathrop.  He married Elizabeth (?) and had at least four children.  Thomas wrote his will in 1628 which was probated in 1629. 

1596 Thomasine Lake baptized in Essex, England.  She was the daughter of John & Elizabeth (Sandell) Lake.

1570 – Isabell Lathrop baptized in Etton, England the son of Thomas & Elizabeth (?) Lathrop.

1621 – Hannah/Ann Lake baptized North Benfleet, England the daughter of John & Margaret (Reade) Lake.  She came to this country with her mother, in the ship Abigail, arriving Oct. 6, 1635, after a passage of ten weeks.  Mrs. Margaret Lake with her daughters Hannah and Martha, accompanied her sister Elizabeth (Read) Winthrop, the new wife of Gov. John Winthrop, Jr., who returned to America in this ship with commissions from Lord's Say, Brook and others.  She left a son in England who never came to America.  Hannah married Capt. John Gallop in 1643 in Boston, MA and moved to Taunton, MA.  In 1651 the family moved to New London, CT and then to Stonington, CT in 1658.  They had at least 10 children.  Capt. John Gallop was born 1616 in England the son of John & Christobel (?) Gallop.  He came to New England on his father’s ship:  John Gallop Sr.  achieved great distinction by piloting in the ship Griffin, a ship of 300 tons, in September 1633, through a new found channel, when she had on board the Rev. John Cotton, the Rev. Thos. Hooker, Rev. Mr. Stone, and other fathers of New England among her two hundred passengers.  Besides these, it is supposed that Mr. Gallop's wife and children were on board.  Capt. John Gallop worked as an Indian interpreter in Connecticut and served as a Connecticut representative from 1665 to 1667.  John was killed in the Narragansett Swamp Fight during King Phillip’s War.
