1769 - Virginia, Southampton Co. - a Nicholas Gurley purchased 154 acres on the south side of Nottoway River adjoining his other land, Richard Blow, Joseph Rochester and Richard Vick for 10 shillings.  50 acres part of grant to Joseph Rochester by patent 17 Aug. 1725 [Isle of Wight Co.] the right and title whereof is since become invested in the said Nicholas Gurley and 104 acres the residue never before granted.
