Birth name: Edna Ann Erkman

Adopted: 1940 by her grandfather Henry Erkman, who changed her name to Trixie because he said she was a cute little trick.

Trixie Lathrop, age 83, of Wayne City, Illinois and most recently of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Greenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky where she was in recovery from hip surgery. Trixie was born on April 10, 1940 in Peoria, Illinois, the only child of Harold & Iva (Colclasure) Erkman.  Her mother died in July 1940 and her father was killed in action during World War II.  She was adopted by her grandfather Henry Erkman who gave her to his sister & brother-in-law Anna & Lonnie Wheeler to raise.

Trixie grew up in Mill Shoals, Illinois until she was 16 when the family moved to Wayne City, Illinois to be closer to Henry Erkman.  She attended Wayne City High School where she met and became life long friends with Dorothy (Lathrop) Utley who promptly introduced Trixie to her brother Bill.

On December 26, 1958 she married Bill Lathrop at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne City, Illinois.

Trixie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wayne City for 63 years and of State Street Methodist Church, Bowling Green, Kentucky for about 1 year.  She played piano at church nearly every Sunday with a brief break provided by Kathy Talbert.

Trixie Lathrop became a farm wife and principal's wife working alongside her husband on tractors and at school functions. She attended Rend Lake Junior College and obtained an associates degree in Education. She worked several years as a teachers aid in the Wayne City kindergarten and at Orchardville Grade School. She taught piano lessons to neighborhood kids, her finest pupil being Josh Gary.  She and Bill also babysat for children during their "retirement."

She will be remembered for her sense of humor, optimism in all things and strong faith and trust in God.

She is survived by her two children, Stephen of Fairfield, Illinois and Suellyn of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

There will be no services at this time.  Donations may be made to:

We do not grieve as those who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.  I Thess. 4:13b-14.
