Morton Butler Wayne City Merchant Dies Last Week

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Wayne City Methodist Church for Morton Butler, 69, who died Tuesday, Feb. 10, after a long illness.

The Rev. Mr. Beck and the Rev. Lloyd Trotter officiated with burial in the Thomason Cemetery.

Mr. Butler had been a resident of Wayne City for about 45 years. He had been a carpenter and owner of a grocery and meat store there. 

He was born August 13, 1883 near Bluford, son of George and Dora Butler.

He was a member of the Wayne City Methodist Church for many years. 

In 1906 [1907] he was married to Anna Robertson. To them five children were born.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Ruth Hendershott of Rockford, Grace Lathrop of Wayne City and Mabel Robertson of Sims; two sons, Edward Butler of SIms and James Everett of Evansville; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Your posts are fascinating. My family was from Wayne County and Jefferson County. McKiness and Braddock. My great uncle was a farmer, I believe in Jefferson County. I'm reading up on where my grandmother was born (Bluford, Jefferson County, Il). She had a nickname of the "wild little indian" because she ran all over the place. Enjoyed reading about your family.
