Marriages:
1821 – David
Robertson & Rebecca Clark in Galliopolis, OH. David was the son of David & Mary (?)
Robertson born in 1800 in Virginia.
Rebecca born 1804 in New Jersey was the daughter of Samuel & Mary
(Darby) Clark. The couple had at least
eight children while living in Lawrence County, Ohio. They moved to southern Illinois ca. 1845 and
their last child was born there. They
were living in Jefferson County, Illinois in 1850 and in Macoupin County,
Illinois in 1860. Their son James joined
the army during the Civil War. I suspect
that they moved north to get away from southern sympathizers and to be closer
to David’s brothers. They returned to
Wayne County, Illinois by 1870. David
died there in 1872 and Rebecca died in 1873.
They are buried in Mt. Zion / Farnsworth Cemetery.

David Robertson died Oct. 15, 1872
aged 72 years 9 months, 14 days
Lord, what is life, 'tis like the bow
That glistens in the sky
We love to see its color glow
But while we look they die
Life parts us soon, today 'tis here
Tonight perhaps, 'twill disappear
Rebecca, wife of D. Robertson
died Oct. 10, 1873 aged 69 years, 9 months, 25 days
Lord, what is life, 'tis a flower
That blossomed and is gone,
We see it flourish for an hour
With all its beauty on
But death comes, the wintry day
And cuts the pretty flower away
aged 72 years 9 months, 14 days
