Joyce E. Bogner-Austin, 82, of Morton, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born on April 17, 1944 in Streator, Illinois, to Harold and Helen (Loser) Edens.
She went to Varna Grade School in Varna, Mid County Jr. High in Lacon and graduated from Mid County Senior High in Varna. In school., Joyce participated in chorus, cheerleading, worked in the office, FHA, GAA and mixed ensemble.
Joyce attended and joined the United Methodist Church in Varna, where she sang in the choir and attended and taught Sunday School.
After graduation, Joyce worked at the Marshall Putnum Farm Bureau Building for the farm advisor and 4-H youth. Later, she worked for Country Companies claims department.
On June 26, 1964, she married Richard T. Bogner from Bradford, Illinois. They lived in Henry for about six months before moving to Lacon. They were married for 36 years before he passed away.
In 1967 their first son, Brian Paul was born. In 1969, their second son, Bradley Thomas, was born.
When the boys went to school, Joyce and a friend started a small gift and craft store. It would go on for 35 years before closing. Their crafts were sold in many stores. Only after Dick died did Joyce want to close shop. It was a big job traveling alone.
She later met Donald Gene Austin at a grief support group. It was a great group and we learned los and learned to have fun again. The group has pretty much dissolved after all these years, but some of us are still close friends. Don and Joyce moved to Morton to be closer to church and our grief support friends.
Joyce is survived by her husband Donald Gene; her two sons, Brian (Kelly) Bogner and Bradley (Deana) Bogner; grandsons, Weston, Tyler (Victoria) Bogner and Kennedy, Zachary (Amber) Hudson and Hayden and Elise. Also surviving are three stepsons Vernon (Phyllis) Austin and their family. Matthew, Abby, Amanda and Tom Stroud, Brogan and Layla, Daryl and Gina Austin and their family, Nathan and Erin Austin and Rachael and Brandon, and Kevin and Jacque Austin and their family, Daniel and Arabella Austin and SOphia and Samuel and Anna Austin and LIam and Phoebe.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2026 at Oak Grove Bible Church in East Peoria, with Pastor Cliff Elliott officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:15 Monday, prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lacon, Illinois.
