Three James Denton's in U.S. Army Register of Enlistments 1798-1914.  The most possible is the second one listed:
James Denton, private, U.S. Infantry, Company Commander Capt. Woodruff or Moore, Orders Pass Christian, Sept. 1, 1812, transferred to Capt. McClelland's Co., Capt. McClellan's Co. Book 1812/15, present Nov. 1 / 1812, discharged 1813
Records:
1750 - Mar. 1 - land surveyed for Charles Huddle, assignee of James Denton of Augusta Co.; no warrant; 400 acres whereon he lives on branches of North Shennandoa; adjoining Abraham Denton.  chain carriers Thomas Grey & Joseph Langdon.

1812 a James Denton received a military bounty warrant issued by James Monroe for 160 acres, SW 1/4, Sec. 13, T14N, R4W located in Mercer County, Illinois.  There is no evidence that our James Denton lived in Illinois.  This could be a different James Denton or James Denton sold the warrant for cash.
