In Memoriam February 29th

Samuel Lathrop – died on leap day 1700 in Norwich, CT at age 77.  He was born in England in 1623 the son of Rev. John & Hannah (House) Lathrop.  He immigrated with his father to Boston in 1634 at age 11.  Samuel married Elizabeth Scudder in Barnstable, MA in 1644 and they had nine children:  John, Elizabeth, Samuel, Sarah, Martha, Israel, Joseph, Abigail and Anne.

1739 Charity (Hodges) Leonard Perkins age 56 in Middleboro, MA.  Born in Taunton, MA in 1682 she was the daughter of Capt. Henry & Esther (Gallop) Hodges.  Charity married 1) Elkanah Leonard and 2) Jabez Perkins.  She had ten children: Elkanah Leonard, Joseph Leonard, Abiah Leonard, Simeon Leonard, Zebulon Leonard, Timothy Leonard, Henry Leonard, Thomas Leonard and Charity Perkins.

1848 Elizabeth (Brooks) Coy age 39 in Muskingum Co., OH.  She was the daughter of Caleb Brooks and was born in 1809.  She married Hiram Coy in 1832 and one daughter Roxanna.  Elizabeth is buried in McGinnis Cemetery in Muskingum Co., OH.

1924 Daniel Branchcomb in Washington Co., Arkansas age 78.  Daniel was born in Illinois in 1845 and married Mary Gentle in 1870.  They had at least one son John.  He's buried in Rheas Mill Cemetery in Rhea, AR.

1935 Orson Petty age 24 son of Glen & Mattie (Lathrop) Petty was born in Sumner, IL in 1910.  He is buried in Sumner Cemetery.

In Memoriam February 27th

1601/02 John Hanson buried in Austerfield, England.  He was married to Margaret Gressam in 1560 in Austerfield.  They had five children: Alice, George, Robert, Catherine and Joan.

1949 Charles Johnson age 78 in Wayne Co., Illinois.  He was born in 1870 in Hamilton Co., IL the son of William & Rebecca (Cain) Johnson.  In 1897 he married Hannah Robertson at her father’s home.  They had nine children: Charles, Elmer, Emery, Edgar, Ivy, Eugene, Ernest, Archie and Susan.  Charles is buried in Mt. Zion / Farnsworth Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.

Safety Essay

An essay on traffic safety written by a Fairfield high school senior, Jackie Holler, has been declared an area winner in the Illinois Editors Traffic Safety Seminar contest.

Jackie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Holler, 505 Windsor Lane, wrote on the subject, "Responsible Driving - Is It My Concern?"

1687/88 Anna (?) Hammond Lathrop in Barnstable, MA.  Her birth date and parents are unknown.  She married was the widow of ? Hammond when she married Rev. John Lathrop in 1635 in Scituate, MA as his second wife.  They had six children:  Barnabas, unnamed child, Abigail, Bathsha, John and unnamed son.

Rappahannock River

The Rappahannock River is the southern border of the northern neck where several families settled in the 1600s.  The Potomoc River defines the northern border of the neck. The neck at the Chesapeake Bay is about 20 miles across.  Over two or three generations these families migrated upriver before crossing the mountains into Kentucky.

Mary Ellen (Parks) Edwards

Mary Ellen Parks was born September 17, 1822 in Ohio the daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth (Ogle) Parks.  She married Solomon Edwards in Muskingum Co., Ohio in 1845.  Solomon died before 1900 in either Kansas or Nebraska.  Mary was living with her daughter's family in Nuckolls Co., Nebraska.

1658 ? Fuller unnamed child of Samuel & Jane (Lathrop) Fuller.  The child was 15 days old.

1748 Thankful (Weller) Loomis the wife of Nehemiah Loomis age 73.  She was born in 1674 and married Nehemiah in 1694.

1879 Charles Johnson age 88 in Pennsylvania.  Charles was the son of Caspar & Deborah (Admason) Johnson.  He was born in Pennsylvania in 1790 and married Esther Strawn.

2006 Charles Franklin Gunter, 87, of McLeansboro died 1 a.m. Feb. 23, 2006 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Gunter was born Oct. 8 1918, in Hamilton County to Harry and Nora (Gibbs) Gunter.  He married Frieda Aliene (Erkmann) Gunter July 5, 1940, in McLeansboro; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  The Revs. Billie Duncan and Robert Sefried will officiate.  Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  Masonic services by Macedonia Masonic Lodge will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife, Frieda Gunter of McLeansboro; sons Charles E. Gunter and wife Alice of Eldorado, Donald Gunter and wife Shirley of McLeansboro, Daniel Gunter and wife Rita of Springerton, Freddie Gunter and wife Ann of McLeansboro and David Gunter of McLeansboro; daughters Barbara Johnson and husband David of Belle Rive, Janet Veteto and husband Larry of McLeansboro and Ruby Everett and husband Charles of McLeansboro; several nieces and nephews; 23 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters Mary Nelson of McLeansboro, Beulah Hanson of Lima, Ohio, Wilma Lewis of LaPorte, Ind., and Ruby Duncan and husband Billie of Carmi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, two brothers Clarance and Clifford Gunter; a sister Bernice Johnson; a grandson James Daniel Gunter; and a great-grandson Derrick Chad Witzel.

Mr. Gunter was a member of Order of Eastern Star, the Masonic Lodge, White Shrine and Amaranth of Carmi.  He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church.

He served as director with Wabash Area Development for 35 years.  He served on the Hamilton County Supervisor of Assessment Board for 12 years.  He was a veteran.

Molly (Speer) Hampton

Mary Matilda (Speer) Hampton

Mary Matilda (Speer) Hampton was born April 16, 1845 in Oldham Co., KY the daughter of Marquis & Susan (Hinkle) Speer.  She was called Mollie.  In 1870 Mollie married Absalom Asbury Hampton.  Absalom was born August 20, 1837 in Kentucky the son of J.R. & Mary (?) Hampton. They lived on a farm in Oldham County, Kentucky until Absalom's death in 1908.  Mollie appears in the 1930 census with her widowed brother Columbus Speer in Oldham Co. living on Speer & Roney Road.  He was listed as 76 and she as 85.  She died in Louisville, KY March 20, 1932 and is buried with Absalom in the Mount Tabor Methodist Church cemetery in Crestwood, KY.

Fauquier County courthouse in Warrenton, Virginia.  The county was created in 1759 from Prince William.  Several of our ancestors lived in the section of Prince William that became Fauquier so that when they appear in Fauquier they had not necessarily moved there.

Bushrod Doggett - son of Richard & Eliabeth (Bushrod) Doggett was born ca. 1707. He married Anne Stribling in King George Co., VA in 1737.  They had eight children: Susanna, Molly, Sarah, Elizabeth, Nancy, George, Joel and Richard.  He purchased 341 acres in Fauquier Co., from Charles & Elizabeth Morgan in 1764 (see next).  Bushrod died in Culpeper Co., VA in 1791.

Charles Morgan Jr. - son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan married a woman named Elizabeth before 1764.  They had at least one son Joseph.  His estate was in proabte court in Culpeper Co., VA in 1782.

Charles Morgan Sr. - son of Anthony & Elizabeth (?) Morgan was born in Old Rappahannock Co., VA in 1680.  He married a woman named Ann and had eight children: Charles, Benjamin, Simon, James, Alice, John, William and Mary.  He purchased 392 acres in Hamilton Parish adjacent to his son Charles' property in 1740. Charles wrote his will Dec. 5, 1758 and it was probated in Sept. 1766 in Fauquier Co.

Simon Morgan - son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan (above).  His will written in 1792 gave 162 acres "being 1/3 of the plantation whereon I live," 77 1/2 acres in Fauquier and 200 acres on Pignut Ridge to his son Joseph; 1/3 tract of 486 acres whereon I live which had been his wife's property to his son Charles; and his son Simon received the final 1/3 of the home plantation.  His children Jeremiah, Sucky (Morgan) Clark and Caty (Morgan) Bradford received £10 each.  His daughter Rosey (Morgan) Cockrum was given 1 shilling and Rosey's son William received £10.

William Morgan - son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan was born ca. 1730.  He married Mary Duncan possible daughter of John and they had a son Charles.  After Mary's death William married a woman named Elizabeth.  They had thirteen children: John, James, Joseph, William, Daniel, Sally, Hannah, Mary, Elizabeth, Alice, Rosamond, Frances & Phoebe.  William was a land speculator.  He eventually sold all his Fauquier Co. property and moved to Lincoln Co. which became Lincoln Co. Kentucky in 1792. William's will and probate records are in the courthouse in Somerset Kentucky.  He died there in 1797.

James Morgan - son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan married Elizabeth Taylor and had at least two children: Elizabeth & Spencer.  James died in Fauquier Co. in 1763 and his property had not been divided in the 1770 tax rolls as it is listed as belonging to the "heirs of James Morgan."

John Morgan - son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan.  He worked as a weaver as well as a farmer. 

John Morehead - son of Charles & Mary (Nelms) Morehead was born ca. 1688 in Northumberland Co., VA.  He married a woman named Mary and they had ten children: Hannah, Joseph, Alexander, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Samuel, Presley, Charles and John. He received a 167 acre tract in Hamilton Parish from Lord Fairfax in 1742.  John wrote his will in June 1768 and his estate went to probate the same year.  It must have been drawn out as his land is still on the tax rolls and he is listed as deceased in 1770.

1753 Martha (Morley) Loomis the wife of William Loomis.  She was born in 1682 and died in Westfield, MA at age 71 and was buried in the Westfield Old Burying Ground.

1771 Deacon Samuel Bliss age 69 was born in 1701 the son of Thomas & Hannah (Cadwell) Bliss..  He married mary Loomis and they had five children: Mary, Lucy, Hannah, Samuel and Solomon.

In Memoriam February 20th

1704 William Bradford age 79 in Kingston, MA.  He was born in Plymouth, MA in 1624 the son of Gov. William & Alice (Carpenter) Bradford.  He married 1) ca. 1652 Alice Richards 2) 1673 Mary Fitch and 3) after 1676 Mary Wood.  William had fifteen children:  Thomas, Alice, Hannah, Meletiah, Mary, Sarah, Israel, Ephraim, David Hezekiah, John, William, Mercy, Samuel and Joseph.  He became a major in the colonial militia, was wounded in the Great Narragansett fight in 1675, served as representative and eventually became deputy governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.  He is buried at Burial Hill in Plymouth, MA.

1782 Charles Morgan’s probate records were entered in the Culpeper Co., VA court.  Charles was the son of Charles & Ann (?) Morgan.  He lived in Fauquier Co., VA and married his wife Elizabeth before 1764. She may have been a Bushrod. 

1876 Mary (Grove) Speer in Oldham Co., KY the daughter of John & Susan (Fox) Grove.  She was probably born in North Carolina ca. 1785.  Mary married John Speer ca. 1806 in Morganton, NC and they had nine children:  Samuel, John, Margaret, Susan, Marquis, Amelia, James, Martha and Julia.  The family moved to Floydsburg, KY ca. 1810.  She is buried in the family graveyard behind her former home in what was Floydsburg, KY.

1925 Chester Lathrop aged 63 in Abilene, TX.  He was born in Illinois in 1861 the son of Hazen & Frances (Bigelow) Lathrop.  He worked as a laundryman. 

1956 Edith (Maulding) Kennedy aged 88 in Lawrenceville, IL the daughter of Zadoc & Elizabeth (Boswell) Maulding.  She was born 1868 in Illinois.  She married Robert Kennedy.  Edith is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, IL.

1975 Gerald Ledet aged 26 the son of Louis & Beulah (Lathrop) Ledet.  He was born in Baton Rouge, LA in 1948.

Wayne County Press item December 18, 1997:

Howard & Ruby (Lathrop) Shelton and granddaughter, Misty (Shelton) Kirby visited residents at several nursing homes last week and brought them Christmas goodies.  First they went to Countryside Manor, rural Mt. Vernon, where they visited Ruby's cousin Ethel Dulaney, who will be 92 in Feb., then to Casey Care Center where they visited with her aunt Clary (Wood) Dove, who will be 101 in March and also with Ada Downey.

Hazel & Dale

Hazel & Dale Colclasure and their niece Trixie (Erkman) Lathrop.  Dale was the youngest son of Clarence & Marybell (Fitzgerald) Colclasure.  His twin Ada Genelle died a few weeks before their first birthday.  Trixie Lathrop was the daughter of Dale's sister Iva.  Dale married Hazel Rudesill in 1949 in Henderson, KY.  They had six children.  Hazel was a great genealogist and help me a lot on the Colclasure line.

1882 Samuel Oliver in Louisville, IL age 23.  He was born in Omega, IL in 1858.  Samuel married Belle Dora Spry in Louisville, IL in 1881.  They had two sons Tommy and Samuel Jr. who was born after his father’s death.

1777 Deborah Avery aged 25 the daughter of Rev. Ephraim & Deborah (Lathrop) Avery.

1799 John Young age 33 in Cabarrus Co., NC.  He wsa born in 1766 the son of John & Ann (?) Young.  The Coldwater Church History website includes a record of Rev. A.N. Marcard translated from German:  Buried at Coldwater [Cold Water Lutheran Church Cemetery], gratis, Feb. 14, 1799 John Jung, died Feb. 13, 1799 in the evening of pleurisy.  He was born in 1766.  Led an unhappy marriage with the widow of Christian Berberich who perished on the way to Charlestown.  The widow is Elizabeth, nee Diderich. From the marriage of 8 years, this is one child, who is a girl. 

1841 Sarah (Goodnight) Boucher aged 67 in Kentucky.  The daughter of Hans & Mary (Landis) Goodnight was born ca. 1774 in Mecklenberg Co., NC.  Sarah married Peter Boucher in Mercer Co., KY in 1795.

1843 Fanny (Warder) Morehead aged 38.  She married Charles Morehead in 1824 and had nine children:  John, Louisa, William, Harriet, Anna, Charles, Frances, James & Benjamin

1986 Emma (?) Wilfong aged 67.  She was born in Illinois in 1918.  Emma was married to Emery Wilfong and is buried in Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, IL.

1871 Mary (Colclasure) Hardin in Effingham Co., IL aged 72.  The daughter of Abraham & Abigail (Dennen) Colclasure she was born in Hardin Co., KY in 1798.  She married John Hardin in Orange Co., IN in 1817 and they had eleven children:  Stephen, Abram, Elisha, John, Aaron, Leander, Susan, Abby, Sarah, Martha and Mary.  She is buried in Bible Grove Cemetery in Clay Co., IL.

1908 Elmer Smith age 2 months the son of John & Sophia (Schmidt) Smith.

1918 Gustav Suter son of Gustav & Eloise (Hoyer) Suter died in St. Jacob, IL at age 55.  He was born in Marine, IL in 1862 and married Itha Smith in 1884.  They had five children:  Leo, Malinda, Linda, Ella and Louis.  

1933 Dora (McCawley) Robertson in Wayne Co., IL age 58.  She married David Robertson in 1892 and they had five children:  Barney, James, Billy, Hobart and Mary.  Dora is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL. - photo

John Mason

Major John Mason was born in England ca. 1601.  He was a lieutenant in the English army in the wars of the Netherlands, with his friend and companion-in-arms, Lord Thomas Fairfax, who was in General Horace de Vere's command at the siege of Bois-le-Duc from April to July, or about five months in 1630.

H of the 9^th IL Infantry during the Spanish American War from July 1898 through May 1899.  The company was mustered into federal service in July 1898 in Springfield, Il.  In August they were ordered to Camp Cuba Libre in Jacksonville, FL.  The company was sent to Savannah, GA in October.  In January 1899 the 9^th IL was shipped to Havana, Cuba and participated in occupation of Cuba through April when they were sent back to Savannah, GA.  The company mustered out in Augusta, GA in May.  J. Newton is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne County, IL.

In Memoriam February 9th

1701 Abigail (Loomis) Barber in Connecticut, aged 41.  Born 1659 in Windsor, CT she was the daughter of Nathaniel & Elizabeth (More) Loomis.  She married Lt. Josiah Barber in 1677 and they had six children:  Abigail, Rebecca, Josiah, Nathaniel, Jonathan and Aaron.

1883 John Hardin born 1796 died at age 87 in Clay Co., IL.  He married Mary Colclasure 1817 in Orange Co., IN.  They had eleven children:  Stephen, Abram, Elisha, John, Aaron, Leander, Susan, Abby, Sarah, Martha and Mary. 

1886 Ann (Johnson) Griffith age 100 in Pennsylvania.  The daughter of Caspar & Deborah (Admason) Johnson was born in Pennsylvania in 1785.  She married James Griffith.

Norwich, Connecticut

Norwich, Connecticut is a hub of the Lathrop family.  Samuel & Elizabeth (Scudder) Lathrop moved there in 1668.  They were the first of four generations to live there through the American Revolution.  Their children married into Norwich families: Adgate, Crow, Perkins, Hodges, Leffingwell, Bushnell, Mason and Fitch among others. This is also the place where the name changes from LOthrop to LAthrop.

In Memoriam February 8th

Richard Lathrop's will was dated Feb. 8, 1640-1, and proved June, 1641 in Yorkshire, England.  In it he remembers the poor of Cherry Burton, of Bishops Burton, of Etton, and of Leconfield; the Church of Cherry Burton; his eldest son Thomas, when of age; his unborn child, if it reaches majority; his wife Dorothy; his mother, Jane Coppendale; his younger son Richard, his brother Joseph, and his son Thomas; his brother Bartholomew; his sister Mary Garwood and her daughter Elizabeth, and to John, son of William Lowthrop.

Clan Bell Tartan

Tartan used by the Bell/Beal/Beall/Beale family.  The family dates to the 1100s and lived along the Scottish/English border.  Alexander Beall is the immigrant ancestor.  He was baptized 1649 in St. Andrews, Scotland and died in Price George's County, Maryland in 1744.  He owned several large tracts of land:

St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church

Memorial Tablet Unveiled Sunday to First Rector, Rappahannock Record - July 5, 1959

A tablet was presented and unveiled at St. Mary's White Chapel Sunday July 5th by Mrs. Roger Donaldson on behalf of the descendants:  Mrs. Calvin Forester, Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. Eva D. Clark, San Augustine, Texas; James Anderson Doggett, Greensboro, NC; Anna W. Doggett, Princeton, WV; Mrs. E.C. Hope, York, SC; Denzil Doggett, Indianapolis, IN; Mrs. Hamilton Kellen, Silver Spring, MD and Mrs. Roger I. Donaldson, Morattico in memory of the first permanent rector of St. Mary's White Chapel, Rev. Benjamin Doggett.

He was the son of William Doggett of Ipswich, England where he was born in 1636.  Rev. Mr. Dogget was educated at Cambridge University in England where he received his bachelor of arts degree in 1656/9 and his master of arts degree in 1662.  After being schoolmaster in Stoke, England, he came to colonial Virginia before 1670.

In 1670 he was presented to the governor of Virginia for induction as rector of Trinity Parish.  He became rector of St. Mary's White Chapel and rector of Christ Church Parishes and served until his death in 1682.  His devotion for St. Mary's White Chapel summed up in these few words, "bequeath my soul and body to God that gave it, my body to be buried before ye pulpit in St. Mary's White Chapel."

In Memoriam February 7th

1897 Otelia (Hostetler) Lathrop daughter of Christian & Anna (Blaser) Hostetler was 43 when she died in Sumner, IL.  Otelia was born in Greene County, IN in 1853 and married Albert Lathrop in Richland Co., IL in 1876.  They had nine children: John, Mattie, Mont, Orson, Dempy, Dennis, Merrit, Levi and Veva.  She is buried in Amity Cemetery in Lawrence Co., IL.

Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest the home of President John Tyler in Charles City, Virginia. John Tyler (1790-1862) served as vice-president to William Henry Harrison and became president upon Harrison's death in 1841.  He was the first vice president to succeed to presidency and to serve without being elected to the office.  Tyler purchased this plantation in 1842.  It remains in the family to this day and is open to the public.  

In Memoriam February 6th

1633 Hannah (House) Lathrop in London age 43.  She was born in Groton, England in 1590 the daughter of Rev. John & Alice (Lloyd) House.  Hannah married Rev. John Lathrop Oct. 10, 1610 in England and they had eight children:  Jane, Anne, John, Barbara, Thomas, Samuel, Joseph and Benjamin.  She died while Rev. John was in prison. 

James Fitch

Monument in Lebanon, Connecticut to our ancestor James Fitch.  Inscription:  

To commemorate the founding and naming of Lebanon, Connecticut by the Reverend Mr. James Fitch, 1622 - 1702 on land granted to him, together with a seven mile tract given him by Owaneco heir to Uncas in appreciation for his wise counsel, justice and humane interest shown the Mohegans.  Erected in memory of his descendant Winchester Fitch, 1867-1963 genealogist of colonial Connecticut families.

In Memoriam March 5th

1724 Sgt. Thomas Leffingwell in Norwich, CT the son of Lt. Thomas & Mary (White) Leffingwell at age 73.  He was born in Saybrook, CT in 1659.  Thomas married Mary Bushnell in Norwich in 1672 and they had ten children: Deborah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Anne, Mary, Zerviah (see below), John, Abigail, Benajah and Hezekiah. 

1770 Zerviah (Leffingwell) Bushnell age 83 in Norwich, CT the daughter of Sgt. Thomas & Mary (Bushnell) Leffingwell.  She was born 1686 in Norwich and married her cousin Captain Benajah Bushnell there in 1709.  They had at least three children: Elizabeth, Benajah and Zerviah.  She is buried in the Christ Episcopal Church in Norwich, CT.

1868 Elizabeth (Taylor) Fitzgerald in Illinois age 46.  She was born in either North Carolina or Kentucky in 1822 and married James Fitzgerald ca. 1841 in Illinois.  They had six children: Stewart, James, William, Nancy, John (see below) and Mary.

1892 John Fitzgerald age 41 the son of James & Elizabeth (Taylor) Fitzgerald born in Illinois in 1851.  He married Margaret Gumbaugh in 1868 and had at least two daughters: Ida and Maude.

1945 Mary (Fee) Barnes died at her home on North Twelfth street, Lawrenceville, Illinois, Monday morning, after several months of illness. 

She was born Mary Fee, the daughter of John H. and Elvira (Lathrop) Fee on February 2, 1875, in Petty Township, Lawrence County, Illinois, making her age 69 years and one month at death.

Mrs. Barnes grew to womanhood in the vicinity of her birth and spent practically all of her life in Lawrence county. She was married to Otto H. Barnes in 1901 and a few years later they moved to Lawrenceville where they continued to make their home.

The husband and four sons survive the deceased. The sons are Warren Barnes, Chicago, Illinois, Homer P. Barnes, Lexington, Kentucky, A. Lowell Barnes, Des Plaines, Illinois; and Carl Barnes, Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by two brothers, Carl Fee of Olney, Illinois and Arthur Fee of Lawrenceville, Illinois.

Mrs. Barnes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville and was regular in her attendance and active in the religious services of the church.

During her young womanhood Mrs. Barnes taught music and throughout her life was vitally interested in good music. One of her greatest joys was to have friends in her home for an evening of music and singing.

Her kindly and friendly disposition made for her a large circle of warm and true friends who will miss her greeting smile. Several years ago she suffered a broken hip which entailed much suffering until she was able to discard her crutches, yet with all this she continued to meet her acquaintances with a smile and a word of cheer, asking after the health and welfare of their families.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church with Rev. H. W. Owen, her former pastor, in charge. Burial was in the Lawrenceville cemetery.

1986 Curtis Lewis age 90 born 1895.  He married Zula Wilkin in 1916 and they had at least one son Elvin.  Curtis is buried at Shouse Chapel, Clay Co., IL.

In Memoriam February 5th

1912 William Lawrence in Wayne Co., IL age 46.  He was born in Johnson Co., IL in 1865 the son of B.T. & Amanda (Morray) Lawrence.  William married Aohalia Robertson Nov. 11, 1886 in Wayne Co., IL.  They had seven children, two who died in infancy, Wilna, Ortha, Fay, Leafy and Fleta. 

1989 Frank Phillips age 86 the husband of Velma Wilkin.

Mary Rosella Fitzgerald born 1871 married Lewis Wolfe 1890.  They had eight children: Lola 1891, Henrietta 1892, Rachel 1895, William 1898, Mollie 1901, Sebron 1905, Cora 1906 and Theron 1909.

In Memoriam February 4th

1728 John Brown age 60.  Born in 1668 he was the husband of Elizabeth Loomis.  They are the ancestors of John Brown of Civil War fame.

1740 Nehemiah Loomis age 69 the son of Lt. Samuel & Elizabeth (Judd) Loomis. 

1835 Henry Powell age 23 in Richford, VT.  The son of Bradford & Clarissa (Goff) Powell was born Sep. 5, 1811 in Richford, VT.

Erkman Siblings

Lyman & Freda (Jordan) Porter, Anna (Erkman) Wheeler, Henry Erkman, Sophia (Erkman) Jordan and Lonnie Wheeler.

Three of the four youngest children of Jacob & Fredericka Erkman were Anna, Sophia and Henry Erkman.  Anna and Sophia were two years difference in age and Henry was seven years younger than Anna.  The three remained very close throughout their lives.  Henry and Anna had homes adjacent to each other in Wayne City from the 1950's until Henry's death in 1974.  Sophia lived in Evansville, Indiana but visited quite often.  

Freda Jordan was the daughter of Sophia Erkman and Ernest Jordan.  She married Lyman Porter in 1931.  They never had any children of their own.  The couple raised Lyman's niece, Helen.
