Died -- At her residence, southwest of Delphos, July 9, Mrs. Miranda Parks, wife of B.M. Parks, Sr. She was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, April 22, 1828, and united in marriage with B.M. Parks June 7, 1846. They came to Kansas in 1875. Sister Parks was converted and joined the Baptist Church in 1848. In after years, she joined the M.E. Church, although being deprived of attendance at public service for many years, she remained faithful and died a triumphant death. The funeral was held at the home and was conducted by Rev. P. Smith and was largely attended. Her husband, three daughters, four sons, two sisters and two brothers and a large circle of near relatives and many friends feel deeply the loss of Mother Parks.

2000 James Everett Butler,
78, of Murray, Ky., died in that city at West View Nursing Home Sunday, July 9,
2000.
He had been a resident at the nursing home only a few weeks following a severe heart attack.
Mr. Butler was a Wayne City native.
He was a retired employee of the State Memorial Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Graveside services and burial took place Tuesday, July 11, at West Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Murray. Rev. Richard Edmiston officiated. The J.H. Churchill Funeral Home at Murray was in charge of arrangements.
He was born at Wayne City Nov. 1, 1921, the son of Morton and Mary Anna Robertson Butler. He was the last survivor of five children in that family. His father operated a grocery-meat market in Wayne City for a number of years.
He was married to Wanda Lawson.
Mr. Butler was of the Methodist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific, where he won the Purple Heart Medal in fighting on Guam, receiving major wounds.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Lawson Butler of Murray, Ky.; two stepdaughters; eight step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.
Those attending the funeral from this area were nieces Bonnie Holler and her husband Ivan; and Barbara Bolton, all of Fairfield; and a nephew Bill Lathrop of Wayne City, children of Mr. Butler’s sister, the late Grace Butler Lathrop. Also attending was a niece, Barbara Boone and her husband Joe, of Fairfield, daughter of his sister, the late Mable Butler Robertson.
2008 William D. Oliver,
82, of Xenia, IL died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 8:07 PM at St. Anthony's
Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
He was born April 5, 1926 in Louisville, IL to Samuel Clyde & Gaynel (White) Oliver. He married Norma J. Moore on April 22, 1951 in Flora, IL.
He was a retired licensed plumber having worked for S&E Sales & Service and Middleton Plumbing. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran having served on the USS Langley Aircraft Carrier and was the recepient of 13 Battle Stars.
He was Past Assistant Chief & member of Xenia Fire Department serving 25 years, past member of Louisville American Legion, Flora American Legion and Flora VFW and attended Effingham Community of Christ Church. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, bowling and gardening.
He is survived by his wife: Norma Oliver; son: Bill Oliver; daughter: Candice Smith; grandchildren: Jonathan Smith & Ima Jo Carruthers, Jeanne Rhodes, and Jennifer Hobbs; great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Jordan, Jerad, Ethan, Harley, Courtney & Gage; sister: Marjorie McAllister; several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers (Elmer, Charles, Scott, Raymond, Bob & Morris Oliver), two sisters (Helen Kincaid & Reba Oliver).
Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation or to Shriners Hospitals and may be received at the funeral home.
