Richardson 85 of Bluford died 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at Good Samaritan
Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Thursday June 23, 1927 in Middleton, son of Earl and Grace (Shaw) Richardson. He married Betty J. Robertson on Dec. 26, 1947 in Mt. Vernon.
Glenn was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, who served aboard the USS Washington (BB-56) the USS Reno (CL-96) and the USS Essex (CV-9). Following his naval service, he was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years until retiring.
He is survived by his wife Betty J. Richardson of Bluford; daughters LaQuita Richardson and husband David Crisman of Chattanooga, Tenn., Glenda Phillips of Bluford, Ronda Gillespie and husband David of Bluford, and James Joyce and husband Jim of Pinckneyville; sons, Bobby Richardson and wife Barbara of Bluford, Michael E. Richardson and wife Jeanine of Bluford, Quint Richardson and wife Debbie of Mt. Vernon; brother, Owen Richardson and wife Shirley of Mt. Zion; sister Vera Webb of Mt. Vernon; special pet friends Floie and Bubba; twelve grandchildren; fourteeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Basil and Jimmy Richardson; sisters Helen Catron, Virgene Derry and Vernie Halstedde; one infant brother and one infant sister; one grandchild, Trevas Henry; and one great-grandchild, McKenzie Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Salem Free Will Baptist Church in Wayne County with the Rev. Brian Bennett officiating. Interment will be at Mateer-Davis Cemetery in Wayne County. Members of Mt. Vernon Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service today at Salem Free Will Baptist Church in Wayne County.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the United Methodist Children's Home or to Mateer-Davis Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
