1893 Little did we think
when reporting the convalescence of our friend, Chas. Cornwell, in our last
week's items, that we would so soon be called upon to announce his decease. He
died on Sabbath morn last, Oct. 13, 1893, at 6 o'clock, aged 35 years. His
remains were interred at Stampers Creek church-yard, followed thither by a
large circle of mourning friends and relatives. He was first attacked with
typhoid fever which succumbed to treatment and we learned that he was free from
fever five days. He was, however, attacked with flux which soon ended his
earthly career. He was a good citizen and a faithful and loving husband and
father. Much sympathy is extended to his bereaved wife, son and daughter.
Deceased was a member of the firm of Burgess & Cornwell, merchants of
Livonia. [Salem Democrat, 10/19/1893]
