In Memoriam February 4th

1728 John Brown age 60.  Born in 1668 he was the husband of Elizabeth Loomis.  They are the ancestors of John Brown of Civil War fame.

1740 Nehemiah Loomis age 69 the son of Lt. Samuel & Elizabeth (Judd) Loomis. 

1835 Henry Powell age 23 in Richford, VT.  The son of Bradford & Clarissa (Goff) Powell was born Sep. 5, 1811 in Richford, VT.
 
1878 Katherine (Warner) Erkman in Carmi, IL at 6:00 p.m. of pleurisy.  She was born in Germany in 1807 and married Jacob Erkman there in 1831.  The couple immigrated to the United States in 1839 settling first in Ohio, southern Indiana and lastly in White Co., IL.  They had at least five children:  Jacob, Clara, Elizabeth, Catherine and John.  Katherine and Jacob divorced in 1852.  She is buried in the Old Carmi Cemetery along the river.  No tombstone has been located. 


1962 Laura (Kepley) Peugh Smith age 98 in Granville, IL.  She was born in Washington Co., IN in 1863 and married Daniel Peugh in Bible Grove, IL in 1882.  They had four children: Edward, Lee, Katie and Lewis.  In 1890 Laura married Josiah Smith in Ingraham, IL and they had three children:  William, Dewey and Lillie.  Laura is buried in Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Marshall Co., IL.


1968 Harold Lathrop, 47-year-old farmer living on Sumner Route 4, suffered an apparent heart attack that was fatal about 4:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon.  Although he had been in ill health for some time, death was sudden and unexpected.
His body was found, after he failed to return home from the field where he had gone to bring in some cattle.
The funeral service was held in Emmons Chapel, Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock with interment in Sumner Cemetery.
Born in Johnson City, Ill., Oct. 3, 1920, he was the son of William G. and Nora McCally Lathrop.  He came to Lawrenceville as a small lad where his parents operated a grocery store for  a number of years.  He sepnt the greater portion of his lifetime in Lawrence County.
He was married to Paulette Tesson in France, June 1, 1946, and they returned to Sumner Route 4 where he was engaged in farming.
Surviving are his wife, and one brother Donald Lathrop of Lawrenceville, Route 3.
1969  Belle (Fitzgerald) Sims York Koucrek age 71.  The daughter of deLafayette & Lillian (Halberstadt) Fitzgerald Aug. 10, 1897.  She was married to B.M. Sims, ? York and Victor Koucrek.

1991 Gerald Galloway, 75, well-known Fairfield building contractor died of an aneurysm suffered about two o’clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 4, 1991, at his home, 1010 West Court. 
He was rushed by ambulance to Memorial Hospital’s emergency room, to no avail.
Mr. Galloway was in the construction business most of his life, starting with his father, the late Ab Galloway, and a brother Vernon.  They handled much construction here.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning from Nale’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Ron Mills officiating.  Interment was in Maple Hill cemetery. A visitation was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
He was born at Boyleston, Dec. 9, 1915, the son of Charles Abner and Flossie Redfern Galloway.
In 1939 he was married to Gladys Cravens in Kentucky.  She passed away in 1954.
Mr. Galloway was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are a son, Robert of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter Marilyn Galloway of Fairfield; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Vern of Olney; and Geraldine of Fairfield. 
1994 Mrs. Mildred (Midge) Colclasure, 74, of Fairfield, died at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital emergency room at 11:55 a.m. Friday Feb. 4, 1994 from a possible heart attack.
Mrs. Colclcasure a retired inspector at Airtex, was having difficulty in breathing.  She underwent open heart surgery five years ago.  The LifeFlight helicopter was summoned Friday but she died before her condition could be stabilized.
She retired at Airtex about 1983, after working there for 33 years. 
Funeral rites were conducted from the Johnson Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Keith Turner officiating.  Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
She was born in Fairfield June 19, 1919, the daughter of Charles E. and Florence Adams Brand. 
She was married to Verlie Colclasure.  He passed away in 1977.  They had no children. 
Mrs. Colclasure was a member of the Ellen Moore United Methodist Church. 
Surviving are a brother, Gene Brand, of Fairfield; one sister Mary Clayton, of Fairfield; and a number of nieces and nephews.



1996 Lucile (?) Robertson age 85 in Brighton, CO.  She was born 1911 and married Ralph Robertson ca. 1941 in Eskridge, KS.  She is buried in the Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery in Thornton, CO.
