1717 John Moss in Wallingford, CT.  He married Martha Lathrop in 1677 and they had ten children: Mary, Esther, Samuel, John, Martha, Solomon, Israel, Issac, Mary and Benjamin.

1879 John Fyffe in Lawrence Co., IL age 58 born in Illinois in 1820.  He married Lucy Lathrop in Lawrence Co., IL in 1852 and they had four children: Mary, Charles, Edgar and Cynthia.

1881 Abraham Colclasure in Oskaloosa, IL of pneumonia age 65.  He was born in 1816 in Indiana the son of John & Rachel (Galbraith) Colclasure.  Abraham married Catherine Galbraith in Washington Co., IN in 1837 and they had fifteen children: Nancy, Elizabeth, Eliza, John, Ellen, Jacob, Emily, William, Richard, Robert, Mary, Martha, Abraham, Perry and Henry.  He is buried in Oak Mound Cemetery in Clay Co., IL.

1919 John Spry in Wayne Co., IL age 59 born in Indiana in 1860 the son of Daniel & Susan (Brooks) Spry.  He married Josephine Summers in 1891 in Louisville, IL and they had four children: Lena, William, Bessie and Rebecca.  He was also married to Maggie Tolliver.

1931 George Smith age 83 the son of William & Clarinda (Benefield) Smith he was born in Clay Co., IL in 1847.  George married Salina Cox in 1868 and they had at least one daughter Clarinda.

1713 Mary (Marvin) Bushnell Adgate age 84 in Norwich, CT she was baptized in Great Bentley, England in 1628 the daughter of Matthew & Elizabeth (Gregory) Marvin.  Her family immigrated to New England in 1635 where she married Richard Bushnell in Saybrook, CT in 1648.  They had a daughter Mary.  She married second Thomas Adgate ca. 1659 and had two daughters Rebekah and Sarah. 

1958 Everette Irwin in Trenton, ND age 79 he was born in Wayne Co., IL in 1878 the son of Corbin & Charlotte (Lathrop) Irwin.  He married Julia Bowen in 1902 in Illinois. 

2002 Elvin Lewis age 76 the son of Curtis & Zula (Wilkin) Lewis he was born in 1926.  He married Alpha Harper in 1947 and they had two children: Connie and Van.  Elvin was a veteran of World War II and served on the USS Pennsylvania.

1733 Israel Lathrop in Norwich, CT the son of Samuel & Elizabeth (Scudder) Lathrop he was born in New London, CT in 1659.  He married Rebecca Bliss in 1686.  "His headstone in old Norwich Town burial ground is the oldest one now there with an inscription on it.  It gives us this tribute to his worth: `Here lies buried ye body of Mr. Israel Lothrup, ye Husband of Mrs. Rebekah Lothrup, who lived a life of exemplary piety & left ye Earth for Heaven Mar. ye 28, 1733, in ye 73d year of his age.'" [Huntington, pp. 47-48]

1969 Chester Newby in Chicago, IL age 47 he was born in Heber Springs, AR in 1922.  He married Louella Talbert in 1960.  They had no children.

1873 Levi Lathrop in Lawrence Co., IL age 52 the son of Russell & Cynthia (Powell) Lathrop he was born in Franklin Co., VT in 1820.  He moved to Decatur Co., IN in 1837 and married Louisa Draper there in 1842.  They had eleven children: Thomas, Ezra, Nancy, Catherine, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Marion, Emma, Joel, George and Grant.  He is buried in Prairieton / Lone Tree Cemetery in Lawrence Co., IL.

1944 John Lathrop age 26 the son of Edgar & Anna (Materna) Lathrop was born in 1917.  He served in the Pacific theater of World War II as a staff sergeant in the 927^th Boat Company Aviation Sp. of the U.S. Army.  He i9s buried in Amity Cemetery in Richland Co., IL.

1653 Joan (Purchase) Capen born ca. 1578 in England.  She married Bernard Capen in 1596 and they had six children: Elizabeth, Ruth, Susanna, Dorothy, John and Honor.  The family immigrated to Dorchester, MA in 1632.

1670 Alice (Carpenter) Southworth Bradford in Plymouth, MA age 80 born ca. 1590 in Wrentham, England the daughter of Alexander Carpenter.  She married Edward Southworth in 1613 and they had two sons Constant and Thomas.  After Edward’s death Alice immigrated to Plymouth, MA where she married Gov. William Bradford in 1623 and they had three children: William, Mercy and Joseph.  She is buried in Plymouth, MA.

1880 Lillie Richardson age 1 year, 5 months and 5 days the daughter of Edward & Amanda (Gentle) Richardson.  She was born in 1878.

1982 Flossie (Butler) White, 84, a resident of Fairfield and Wayne City, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. White had entered the Mt. Vernon hospital to have a hip operation.  She had no history of heart complications, the Press was told.

1836 James Fitzgerald in Gibson Co., IN age 91 the son of James & Mary Fitzgerald was born 1745 in Orange Co., VA.  He married Jane Bruce in Orange Co., VA in 1787 and they had twelve children: Johnson, John, James, Reuben, Frances, Mary, Nancy, Sarah, Derritt and Stephen.

1691 Joan (Gallop) Joy in Hingham, MA the daughter of John & Christabel Gallop was born in England and immigrated to Massachusetts in 1633.  She married Thomas Joy in 1637 and they had eight children: Samuel, John, Thomas, Joseph, Ephraim, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Ruth.  She is buried in Hingham Cemetery, Hingham, MA.

1713 Samuel Denton in Hempstead, NY age 81 born in Halifax, England in 1631 he was the son of Richard Denton.  In 1656 he married Mary Rock Smith in Hempstead, NY and they had at least one son: Abraham.

1822 I Charles Morgan of Muhlenberg County and State of Kentucky, being in good health and sound mind but well understanding the certainty of death do make and ordain this my last will and testament as followeth towit  My will and desire is that all my just debts be faithfully paid out of the debts due to me of judgments obtained in my name and for my benefit of sales of lands made and may yet be made by my several agents.  But in case a sufficientcy cannot be procured in good time out of the above described means then to make sale of some of my most saleable lands in the upper counties which my agents can point out.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Morton during her life time then to be the property of her heirs equally, five hundred acres of land, the 200 acres which purchased of John Hopkins and assigned to her.  And the 200 acres that I purchased of Matthew Williams to be a part.  The other 100 acres to be taken off the most Southward part of George Lovelace’s additional claim which 500 acres of land is to be a part of her portion of lands.  Also my negro woman Phyllis and her future increase. 

Whereas I give unto my daughter Anne Morehead, dec’d. a Negro Woman named Sall and her increase and by agreement with Armistead Morehead all their children are provided for in Negroes except their sons Charles and Alfred.  I therefore give and bequeath unto said Charles and Alfred four hundred dollars’ worth of land each to be as conveniently situated as cases will admit of which land is to be considered as a part of their Mothers portion lands.

1704 Isaac Loomis age 26 in Windsor, CT the son of Joseph & Mary (Chauncey) Loomis was born in Windsor in 1677.

1833 Miriam Brooks in Muskingum Co., Ohio 1 month old the daughter of Richard & Delinah (Coy) Brooks.  She is buried in McGinnis Cemetery in Muskingum Co., Ohio.

1872 Elizabeth Cornwell age 89 the daughter of Simon Cornwell.  She was born in 1782.

In Memoriam March 16th

1727 Joseph Morse wrote his will which included his wife Susanna and children: Joseph, Amos, Lydia, Mary wife of Jonas Wood, Ann wife of John Wood and Elizabeth.  Joseph also mentioned his grandchildren: Ann, Phebe, Samuel & Jeremiah Wood.  He owned at least 193 acres of land which he disposed of in his will.  Joseph’s will was proved July 28, 1729.

1825 Joseph Ogle in Coshocton, Ohio age 72 the son of John & Ruth (Beall) Ogle was born in Owens Creek, MD in 1753.  He married Amelia Linton in Maryland ca. 1788 and they had three children: William, Thomas and Sarah.

In Memoriam March 15th

1713 Mary (Rock  Smith) Denton in Hampstead, New York age 73.  She was born in Dorchester, MA in 1640 the daughter of John & Elizabeth (Gildersleeve) Rock Smith.  The family used the name Rock Smith to distinguish themselves from several other Smith families in the area.  Mary married Samuel Denton in 1656 in Hempstead, NY and they had at least one son Abraham.

1829 John Tipton Hunt Jr. age 66 in Owingsville, KY he was born in Frederick Co., VA in 1763 the son of John & Mary (Overall) Hunt.  He was a veteran of the American Revolution.  John married Mary Denton in Washington Co., TN in 1788 and they had fifteen children: Lemuel, William, Absalom, James, Reuben, John, Howard, William, Joshua, Elizabeth, Denise, Sarah, Benjamin, Patsy and Debby.  At age 49 he commissioned a colonel in the War of 1812.  He is buried in Crain Cemetery in Fleming Co., KY.

1681 In the name of God Amen:  I, Benjamin Doggett, minister of Lancaster County, being sick and weake in boddy but of sound and perfect memory, do make this my last will and testament as follows:

1st I bequeath my soul and boddy to God the giver and my boddy to be decently buried before the pulpit in the Chapel Church.

2nd I give unto my eldest son Benjamin Doggett, a hundred and fifty acres of land, beginning at the water side and to run right across from the line that parts me and Thomas Tomson to Jon Cook, and in case he dyes without issue male, then the land to be equally divded with the orchard, between my two sons Richard and William and in case my son Benjamin shall marry before he arrives to ye age of two and twenty, he shall thereby forfeit all his title and interest in said land and the land to be divided as above mentioned.

3rd I give unto my son Richard Doggett, on hundred acres of land and in case he dyes without issue male or marries before he arrives to the age of twenty-two then the land to descent to my son William Doggett the shares . . . without of his share in my personal estate as will purchase him a part of the land to be . . . for him.  sarbts afterward to be bought for him as his estate will admit of.  If sarbts cannot be purchased the Tobb (tobacco) to be disposed of to ye best advantage.

4th I give to my son William Doggett, one hundred acres of land and in case he dyes without issue male or marries before he arrives at the age of twenty-two, then ye land to be divided between my two daughters Jane and Anne Doggett, a part to be purchased for him out of his share in my personal estate the land seated and other parts to be bought for him as his estate will admit of, to ye best advantage, those two hundred acres given my two sons Richard and William to be divided at the discretion of my Executor.

5th I give unto my daughter Jane Doggett in England, twenty shillings and no more because she have been detained from me and is surely provided for.

6th I give unto my daughter Anne Doggett, fifteen thousand pounds of Tobb, six young cows, six breeding sows to be paid for by my 3 sons Benjamin, Richard and William provided she doth not marry before she arrives at the age of eighteen, ye lott to be at two yearly payments, one half the first year and the other half the next year, her name and age to be registered in the book of Christ Church parish and likewise my two sons borne in Virginia, their age you must have from their mother.

7th Because there remains six thousand pounds of Tobb to be paid Mr. Flower and some other lott if the Tobb allowed me by ye parishes and with my sarbts make will not dephrey them, then so much to be should out of my personal estate to be equally divided between my wife and children only debaring my son Benjamin any share amid share in ye cattle because he have good stock of his own.

8th My wife to have her accomondations as long as she continues a widow but if she marries, she shall desert the plantation, my two sons and my daughter Ann to have their accomodation with my son Benjamin till they are capable to live on their own.

9th The pipe stands to be sold for money . . . Sawers to be employed to saw planks to be sold for money to pay Mr. Griggs.

10th My books to be appraised, a great chest to be bought, ye books to be packed up and sent to England to be sold, ye overplus of monies that remains when Mr. Griggs is paid, I give unto my living wife Jane Doggett desiring her to buy mourning ring with this purpose, following more

11th I do constitute and appoint Mr. Shraphoard, Mr. Stimaold (?), Mr. Atkins, Mr. Wilkes ye appraisers of my estate.  Mr. Thomas Marlin, Mr. Joth Mullis executors to this my last will and testament and for their trouble I give unto both my executors 20 to buy the mourning rings.

1902 Clarinda (Benefield) Smith in Clay Co., IL age 74 the daughter of Robert & Elizabeth (Blair) Benefield she was born in Huron, IL in 1827.  She married William Smith in 1846 and they had nine children: Etta, George, John, James, David, Catherine, Josiah, Finley and Amanda.  She is buried in Hoosier Prairie Cemetery in Clay Co., IL.

1948 Mary (Crumbacher) Harrington age 77 in Illinois.   She was born 1870 the daughter of James & Nancy (Gentle) Crumbacher.  Mary married Monroe Harrington in Wayne Co., IL in 1891.  She is buried in Gunion Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.

1671 Thomas Little in Massachusetts age 61, he was born in England ca. 1610.  He married Ann Warren in Plymouth, MA in 1633 and they had eight children: Thomas, Mercy, Ruth, Hannah, Patience, Isaac, Ephraim and Samuel.

1913 Della (Robertson) Baldwin age 22 the daughter of John & Theresa (Herman) Robertson was born in 1890.  She married Charles Baldwin in Wayne Co., IL in 1907.  Della is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.

1966 Hazel (Knowles) Bryan age 76 was born in Clay Co., IL in 1889.  She married Wesley Bryan in 1909.

1985 Reuverta (Wilson) Parkhill, 86, Route 2, Bluford, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in the Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Mrs. Parkhill was born in Hamilton County April 12, 1898, the daughter of Thomas P. and Mary Etta (Butler) Wilson.  On March 31, 1920, she married John J. Parkhill, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bluford.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bluford Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert L. Shook and Alva Merritt officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery near Bluford.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Harry A. Parkhill and wife Pauline of Kankakee; one daughter, Mrs. Loren (Fairy) Pilcher of Farina; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Edith Elsie Wilson, and one brother, Horacia Wilson.

Memorials may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, the Mount Olive General Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
