In Memoriam June 22nd


1887 Jarvis Williamson, an old citizen and prosperous farmer of this county, living in Pendleton Township died very suddenly at the Commercial Hotel last Wednesday evening.  He in company with Thomas F. and James Moore had just eaten supper when Mr. Williamson complained of feeling badly and was led out to the lawn where he was laid down on the grass.  He expired in a few minutes, his death resulting from cerebral hemorrhage.  About one year ago Patrick Williamson, a brother died as suddenly in the wheatfield. Mr. Williamson's family was notified immediately and on Thursday morning the remains were taken home to be buried.  Jarvis is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Jefferson Co., IL.



1909 Anna (Hahn) Erkman in Hamilton Co., IL she was 51.  The daughter of Heinrich & Katharina (Ritter) Hahn, she was born in Wildstein, Germany in 1858.  Anna married George Erkman in 1884 and they had six children: Carolina, Louisa, John, George, Frederick and Amilia.

1914 Abraham Cotterell age 79 in Richland Co., IL.  Civil War veteran, Sgt., Company E., 11th Missouri Volunteer Infantry.  Enlisted in July 1861 and served for three years.  He participated in 16 battles in Mississippi, Tennessee and Red River.

Abram Cotterell was born July 31, 1834 in Hart County, Kentucky, and when an infant his parents took him to now Richland County, and settled in German Township, where he was raised.  Our subject was married in 1864 to Sophia Beckwith, of Crawford County.  She died June 16, 1872 aged forty-one.  They had four children: Asa, Aden, Etta and Ella.  Mr. Cotterell was next married to Mrs. Clarinda (Lathrop) Bryan, in the fall of 1872.  She was born in 1833 in Canada. They have one son, Omer L., and Mrs. Cotterell has one daughter by her former marriage. On Mr. Cotterell's return from the Army, he lived on his father-in-law's farm two years, but he now owns a farm of 320 acres, which is improved with the best house in the township.  The house cost about $2,000.  Mr.  Cotterell was Township Collector in 1860 and subscribed for a pew in the Methodist Church at Pleasant Ridge in 1900.


1930 Theresa (Herman) Robertson age 73 in Wayne Co., IL.  She was born in Illinois in 1857 and married John Robertson in 1879.  They had six children: John, Amos, Laura, Della, Leonard and unnamed child.  She is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.
