1971 Mrs. Mabel June Lathrop, 74-year-old Sumner resident died in Lawrence County Memorial Hospital about 4:15 Monday morning.  She had suffered a heart condition for a long time.


The funeral service will be held at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon (Wednesday) from Sivert Funeral Home in Sumner with the Rev. Henry Wortman officiating.  Interment will be in Sumner Cemetery.
A lifelong Lawrence County resident, she was born June 2, 1897, a daughter of Sherman and Ella May Smalley Petty.  She was married to Dennis Lathrop, who preceded her in death in July 1967.  A son, Gerald, was killed January 1945, in action during World War II.
Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Louis (Beulah Ledet of Charleston Heights, SC, Mrs. Jay (Dorothy) Falke of Adrian, Michigan, Mrs. Denver  (Norma) Leturno of Carpentersville and Mrs. Rick (Phyllis) Summers of Titusville, Fla.; two sons, Levi L. Lathrop of Bridgeport Route 1 and Leonard Lathrop of Adrian, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Fern Lathrop and Mrs. Ethel Messenger, both of Sumner; and Mrs. Jessie Lee of Dayton, Ohio; four brothers, Gene Petty of Sumner, Dee Petty of Piqua, Ohio, Ray Petty and Harold Petty of Decatur; 18 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Lathrop was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church.
Obituary
Mabel June (Petty) Lathrop, daughter of Sherman and Ella Petty was born June 2, 1897 in Petty Township, Lawrence County, Illinois and departed from this life June 21, 1971 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois at the age of 74 years and 19 days.
On Sept. 16, 1917, she was united in marriage to Dennis C. Lathrop also of Petty Township.  To this union were born 3 sons and 4 daughters, namely: Beulah O. Ledet of Charleston Heights, So. Carolina, Dorothy E. Falke of Adrian, Michigan, Levi L. Lathrop, Bridgeport, Illinois, Gerald I. Lathrop, deceased, Norma J. Leturno, Carpentersville, Illinois, Leonard E. Lathrop, Adrian, Michigan and Phyllis E. Summers, Titusville, Florida.
She was converted at an early age and joined the Prairie Chapel E.U.B. Church, where she remained a faithful member as long as her health permitted.
She enrolled at Normal University in Bloomington, Illinois while in her teens, but had to terminate her scholastic pursuits and return home due to illness.
She was always a devoted wife and mother and a champion church worker.  Her family, and many friends and relatives were inspired by her devotion to God and in many cases influenced by her dedication.
Many times she shouldered tremendous burdens and faced conditions of despair, but came forth undaunted.  She took great pride in her family, her endeavors, and her accomplishments.
She will be missed by all those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by one son Gerald and her husband.  Surviving, in addition to the six children are 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and 3 sisters and 4 brothers who are Fern Lathrop, Gene Petty, and Ethel Messenger all of Sumner, Jessie Lee of Dayton, Ohio, Dee Petty of Piqua, Ohio, Ray Petty and Harold Petty of Decautr, Illinois and many other relatives and friends.
1975 Gaynell White age 86 in Louisville, IL.  The daughter of Solomon & Sarah (Coggan) White she was born in Sailor Springs, IL in 1888 she married Samuel Oliver in 1907.  They had ten children: Alma, Elmer, Samuel, Robert, Charles, Warren, Helen, William, Morris and Marjorie.
