In Memoriam June 16th

1676 William O’Dell son of John & Susan (Nichols) O’Dell died in Fairfield, CT at age 74.  He was born in England in 1602.  William married Rebecca Brown in 1633 and they had at least one child: William. 


1894 Hester (Hopkins) Maulding age76 in Wayne Co., IL.  She was born in Kentucky in 1817 the daughter of John & Susannah (Saltzman) Hopkins.  Hester married Andrew Maulding in 1834 and they had nine children: Zadoc, Sarah, Susan, Cloyd, Luther, Mary, John, Frances and Eliza.  She is buried at Olive Branch Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.


1966  Fannie (Gurley) Mateer - Mrs. Frank Mateer, 78, well-known Wayne City resident, died at 7:55 Thursday morning (today) in the Good Samaritan hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She had not been well for some time.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Richardson Chapel in Wayne City.  Charles Webb will officiate.  Friends may call at the chapel after four o'clock Friday afternoon.  Burial will be in Thomason cemetery.
Mrs. Mateer was born in Collinsville June 10, 1888, the daughter of Harry M. and Sarah J. Anderson Gurley.  She was married May 19, 1920 to Frank Mateer who died June 13, 1964.  Mr. Mateer was president of the First National Bank of Wayne City for over 30 years and was owner and operator of the Wayne City Grain and Feed Co. for a number of years.
She was a member of the Wayne City Christian church.  Mrs. Mateer was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.  There were no children.

2011 Robert “Bob” Gene Baker, 78 of Tallahassee, Fla., died Thursday, June 16, 2011 in Tallahassee after a massive stroke.
He was born in Fairfield and attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a master’s degree in accounting in 1970.  He moved with his family to Florida in 1972 and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation in 1999.
His greatest passion in life was serving God.  He did this in many ways from teaching Sunday School, working with youth basketball and volunteer work.  He was an avid sports fan and loved to follow the Seminoles and Chicago Cubs.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church, 2919 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Fla., with a reception following.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or Grace Lutheran Church.  There will also be a service in Fairfield at Christ Lutheran Church, 912 W. Delaware 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011.  A country meal will follow at 4:30 p.m.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Viola Irene Baker; two daughters Carmen (Tim) Lashley of Tallahassee, Krista Oguz of Decatur, Ga.; three brothers Paris (Betty) Simspon Jr. of Fairfield, John (Fran) Simpson of Tuscumbria, Ala., Donald (Brenda) Simpson of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; one sister Mary (Bob) Tjaden of Fairfield; two grandchildren, Gregory and Olivia Lashley of Tallahassee, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paris and Cora Simpson.
