In Memoriam August 28th

1689 Thomas Loomis in Windsor, CT age 65.  He was born in England in 1624 the son of Joseph & Mary (White) Loomis and immigrated to New England at age 14 with his parents.  In 1653 he married Hannah Fox and they had four children: Thomas, Thomas (2nd), Hannah and Mary.  He married 2) Mary Judd in 1663 and they had 7 children: Elizabeth, Ruth, Sarah, Jeremiah, Mabel, Mindwell and Benjamin. 


1951 Robert Speer son of Columbus & Louisa (Long) Speer in LaGrange, KY, he was 78.  He married Bettie Caldwell and they had five children: Clara, Luann, Elizabeth, Mildred and Robert.  Robert is buried in Floydsburg Cemetery in Oldham Co., KY.


1972 Zula (Wilkin) Lewis age 74 in Clay Co., IL.  The daughter of John & Mary (Smith) Wilkin she was born in 1897.  Zula married Curtis Lewis and they had at least one son, Elvin. She is buried in Shouse Chapel Cemetery in Clay Co., IL.

1996 Armor L. Petty, 87, of Sumner, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1996 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.
Services will be at Sivert-Macey Funeral Home in Sumner with Fr. Ray Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
Petty was born Dec. 22, 1908 in Lawrence County, the son of Glenn and Mata (Lathrop) Petty. He married Marcella Petitjean in 1936. She survives.
He was a school teacher for 38 years and was also principal at Sumner Grade School. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bridgeport and was a member of the Masons in Sumner.
He is survived by a son, Larry Petty of Vincennes, Ind.; a daughter, Mary Ralston of Lawrenceville; a sister, Hazel Peel of California and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and two brothers.
