In Memoriam August 12th

1752 Mary (Porter) Loomis age 79.  The daughter of John & Joanna (Gaylord) Porter she was born in 1672 and married Hezekiah Loomis in 1690.  Mary is buried in Edwards Cemtery in South Windsor, CT.

1851 Michael Goodnight age 98, the son of George.  He married Charlotte Durall in 1805 and they had ten children:  Tabitha, Catherine, Stephen, John, Harriet, Martha, Matilda, Robert, Jane and Mary.

2001 Elmer C. Gentle, 91 of Mt. Vernon died 6:30 a.m. Aug. 12, 2001 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.


He was retired.  He had been a county superintendent for the Illinois Department of Public Aid.
Mr. Gentle was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Jefferson County to Calvin F. and Grace E. (Whitlatch) Gentle.  He married Ruth M. Robertson on March 11, 1933, in Bluford,; she died Nov. 23, 1995.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.  The Rev. Everett Lemay will officiate.  Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.  Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens on Wednesday morning.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home.
Mr. Gentle is survived by one son, Larry D. Gentle and wife Diane of Overland Park, Kan; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and care giver Treva Satterfield of Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Gentle was a Baptist. 
He was a longtime member of Mt. Vernon Optimist Club.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Leota Gentle; one infant brother and one infant sister.
