In Memoriam August 24th

1761 Ann (Backus) Lathrop age 66 in Connecticut.  She was the wife of Nathaniel Lathrop.

1836 Jacob Young in Tampico, IN age 72.  He was born ca. 1764 in Mecklenberg, NC the son of John & Ann Young.  Jacob married 1) Rachel Goodnight and 2) Catherine -----.  Jacob was the father of fifteen children: Mary, an unnamed son, John, Elizabeth, Michael, Rachel, Sarah, Juliette, William, Andrew, Solomon, Susan, Martha and Hetty.  Jacob & Rachel are the great-grandparents of Harry Truman. They are buried in Waskom Cemetery in Jackson Co., IN.


1917 Samantha (Lathrop) Roney the daughter of Henry & Rachel (Laws) Lathrop was born in Richland Co., IL in 1845.  She married David Roney in 1869 and they had a daughter Cora who died young.  Samantha was 72 when she died.  They are buried in Amity Cemetery in Richland Co., IL.


1937 Clara (Erkman) Zeller Plummer Fred in Lovell, WY at age 76. The daughter of Jacob & Eva (Bechtold) Erkman was born in Mt. Vernon, IN in 1861.  She married 1) John Zeller 2) George Plummer and 3) William Fred.  Clara and John Zeller had eleven children: George, Mary, John, Elnora, John, Elizabeth, Charles, William, Elmer, Clara and Whilemina. 

1948 Ernest Jordan age 61, he was born in 1886.  He married Sophia Erkman and they had a daughter Freda before divorcing in 1930.  He is buried in Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, IL.

2001 Freda Ione Fitzjerrells, 89, of Bonnie died 9:30 p.m. Aug. 24, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Fitzjerrells was retired.  She had been a secretary for Sister Monica at Good Samaritan Hospital and was a volunteer for the hospital auxiliary for many years.  She also served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
She was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Chandlerville to John and Jennie Maude (Lathrop) Gaskill.  She married Kern Fitzjerrells on June 27, 1931; he died Feb. 24, 1998.
Funeral services were held this morning at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.  The Revs. Jimmie Fitzjerrells and Everett Lamay officiated.  Burial was at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Fitzjerrells is survived by five sons, Jack Fitzjerrells and wife Trish of Atlanta, Ga., Jimmie Fitzjerrells and wife Renda of Mt. Vernon, Walter “Whitey” Fitzjerrells of Bonnie, Bob Fitzjerrells and wife Sharon of Pekin, and Randy Fitzjerrells of Bonnie; three daughters, Norma Caolwell and husband Don of Bluford, Shirley Marlow and husband Wendell of Mt. Vernon and Brenda Sue Roberts of Bloomington; 32 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Louise Gwaltney of Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Fitzjerrells was a member of Hams Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Hopper Homemaker Club.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who truly enjoyed being with her family and playing with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Fitzjerrells was blessed with many special care givers over the years for whom she developed a genuine fondness.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fitzjerrells was preceded in death by her parents; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Bernard; one sister Bernice; and son-in-law Thomas Roberts of Bloomington.
