Died: October 3, 1727 in Lebanon, Connecticut

Buried:  Old Cemetery, Lebanon, Connecticut

Married: Mary Powell ca. 1689

Occupation: worsted comber, farmer and possibly a black smith based on items in his will and inventory.

1688 - June - Plymouth County, Massachusetts - a Stephen Tilden listed as petit juror, may be his father. 

1691 - Marshfield, MA - Stephen Tilden listed as constable for the year


1694 - Aug. 3 - Marshfield, MA - a Thomas Tilden sold land to Stephen Tilden, this may be his father. 

1694 - Dec. 8 - See Book, MA - Joseph Tilden sold land to Stephen Tilden, this may be his father and uncle. 

1694 - Dec. 11 - Marshfield, MA - a Joseph Tilden sold land to Stephen Tilden, this may be his father and uncle.

1694 - Dec. 11 - Scituate, MA - Thomas Lappum sold land to Stephen Tilden, could be his father. 

1694 - Dec. 12 - Scituate, MA - William Tickner & William Tickner Jr. sold land to Stephen Tilden & Stephen Tilden Jr. 

1695 - July 5 - Marshfield, MA - Samuel Little sold land to Stephen Tilden Sr. and Stephen Tilden. Samuel Little was probably his uncle. 

1698 - March 2 - Plymouth County, Massachusetts - a Stephen Tilden a grand juror, may be his father. 

1698 - Aug. 3 - listed as heir of his father in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, 3:62

1698 - Nov. 10 - John Jones purchased land from Samuel & Elizabeth Curtis, William & Lidia Tickner, James & Rebecka Briggs, John Tilden and Stephen Tilden.  This could be another branch of the family settling an estate. 

1700 - May 27 - Scituate, MA - Joseph & Susanna White sold land to Stephen Tilden and Stephen Tilden Jr. 

1701 - March 26 - Stephen Tilden, Jr. worsted comber of Scituate & wife Mary in Plymouth County 5:7

1702 - Feb. 15 - Scituate, MA Stephen Tilden bought land from Philip & Elizabeth Turner.  This may be his father. 

1702 - July - Plymouth County, Court of Common Pleas - Steven Tilden listed as  petit juror.

1717 - Aug. 11 - Lebanon, CT, Stephen Tilden, Sr. is recorded in the Lebanon First Congregational Church as owning the covenant. 

1718 - Mar. 3 - Scituate, MA Stephen Tilden & Stephen Tilden Jr. sold land to Samuel Stodder 

1725 - May 8 - Stephen Tilden wrote his will:
In the Name of God Amen. The Eighth day of may in ye year 1725: I Joseph Tilden of Lebanon In ye County of New London and Colony of Connecticut being weak in body but of Perfect of mind and memory Thanks be given unto God. Therefore calling unto mind ye mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to dye do made and ordain that my last will and Testament that is to say princaply and first of all I give and recommend my soul into ye hands of god that gave it and my body I recommend to Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at ye discretion of my Executor Nothing doubting but at ye generall Resurection I shall Recover ye same Again by ye mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate Where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life After my funerall and just debts and paid I give devise and dispose of ye same in ye following manner and form
Imp. I Give and bequeath unto Mary my Dearly beloved Wife an Honourable Maintainance out of my whole estate during her widowhood to be paid by all my children in equal proportion.
Item I give to my well beloved son Stephen Tilden my field that is next adjoyning to his own land and so much farther west as to ye corner of his f---- and so ye same distance north from my sd field up ----- to ye land of Isaac Limon (?) bounds what I have already given him by deed whom I likewise constitute make and ordain my sole executor of this my last will and testatment.  And also I give to my sd son loom and weavers ------.
Item I give to my well beloved daughter Hannah Tilden one hundred pounds to be payed out of my estate as money & my new feather bed and bolster and bed sted Curtains and one coverlid. Two blankets, two payr of good sheets and a cow and a calf by her ---- out of my stock at her own choice one ----- ------ ------ slice (?) iron pott and kitle and a brass kitle and I give to my said daughter one ---  of my house(?) wch she pleases during her living single.
Item I give to my well beloved daughter Mary Powell my thirty acre tract (?) of land next adjoyning to ye high way that goes north of Richard Mans land besides what I have given her already.
Item I give to my well beloved grandson Joshua Tilden my smith shop tools.
Item I give the last of my estate after ye ------- of ye foregoing part of my will to be equally divided as ----- my aforsd children Stephen, Hannah & Mary
And I do hereby utterly disalow revoak and disannull all and every other former Testament Wills, legasies and bequests and Executors by me in any ways before named wills and bequests ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year on ye other side written.  Signed, sealed published pronounced and declared by the sd Stephen Tilden as his last will and Testament in ye presents of us ye subscribers

Then ye within named Caleb Pierce and Joseph Fowler personaly apeared and made solemn oath that they saw ye within named Stephen Tilden sign, seall and heard him publish pronounce and declare ye within will to be his last will and testament and that they at ye same time set their names their to as witnesses in presents of ye Testator and that ye said Josh Sutton at ye same time set his hand to ------ to as an witness with ye deponents and that they do judg[e] ye sd Stephen Tilden at ye same time of being of executing ye sd will was of sound mind and memory, before me

1728 - July 26 - Distribution of Stephen Tilden's estate at the Plainfield, Connecticut
Whereas we ye subscribers were appointed by ye Court of Probate held on at Plainfield on ye 26 day of July Instant Equally divide a certain hous[e] and homeste[a]d lying and being in Lebanon between Stephen Tilden of ye one part and Rowland Powell and Mary his wife of another part and Caleb Pierce and Hanah his wife of the other part all of sd Lebanon and accordingly on ye day and date hereof we divided ye same as followeth that is to say to Stephen Tilden we laid out ye southern part of ye homestead beginning at ye southwest cornar of sd farm and so runing east 300 degrees and 40 minutes north by a high way 122 Rods to ye south east cornar of sd farm. Then runing north 20 and degrees West by land of sd Stephen tilden 32 rods to a heap of stone Then runing west 30 and 40 min. south to a High Way or street Then runing south 35 degrees and a half East 32 Rods and a half to ye first bound.  And also a small parcel of land bout (?) 110 Rods joyning to ye West end of sd tract to ye first cornar bounds and also ye dweling house barn and other buildings there on.  
And we also got out to ye sd Rowland Powell and Mary his wife and other part and parcel of sd farm bounded as followeth beginning at ye north west cornar of ye aforsd parcel of land  at a heap of stones by ye street and from there ye line runs East 30 degrees and 40 mins. North 130 Rods by ye land set out to Tilden to a heap of stones then runing north 20 degrees to a Walnut stump 7e cornar of Tildens field and from there north 19 degrees West to a heap of stones 44 rods in ye whole from thence west 30 degrees and 40 mins. south 141 Rods to a heap of stones at ye sd street or high way then runing south 34 degrees East 44 Rods to ye first bounds.
We also set out and devided to Caleb Pierce and Hannah his wife the rest and remainder of sd farm and bounded as followeth: Beginning at ye north west cornar of ye aforsd. parcel land & to Powell ye heap of stones by ye high way and from thence Runing East 30 degrees and 40 mins. North by ye land set out to Powell 141 Rods to a heap of stones then runing North 19 degrees west by land of Stephen Tilden 43 Rods to a heap of stones ye north east cornar of ye wholl tract now by these presents divided from thence ye line runs west 20 degrees south by land of Isaac Lyman 152 Rods to a heap of stones then ye line runs south 34 degrees and 30 mins. East 46 Rods to ye first bounds ye above mentioned land was by us set out and divided as aforesd. We bring under oath as ye law directs In witness heard of us have hereunto set our hands this 30 day of July AD 1728.
