Mavity, N.B. & Myrtle Mavity. First Marriage Records of Orange County
The book in which the marriage records for 1816 to 1826 printed below were entered was lost so long ago that no one in the Orange County Court House at Paoli, Indiana, knew of its existence until it was brought to light last March in the furnace room of the building. A pile of papers brought down from the attic about three years ago included the records.

Johnson, Emsley. The Philburd Wright Family
In his Sketches, Mr. Nowland wrote in 1876: "Among the early settlers of the Territory of Indiana was a large family of Wrights, who emigrated from Randolph County, North Carolina, and settled in Union County in 1813. From Union County a portion of them went to Wayne, and some to Washington County; later four of the sons came to Marion County." Philburd Wright, one of the many persons of this name who came to Indiana, was born in Maryland in 1750. He became a pioneer of Indiana about 1813, taking up his residence in Union County near Brownsville, where he died in 1831 or 1833. It is believed that he served in the Revolutionary War, and later as justice of the peace in Randolph County, North Carolina, for about forty years. He married Elizabeth Reagen and to them were born the following children:
- Joshua
- Caroline / Delilah
- Sarah
- Mary
- Noah - b. Aug. 30, 1784 Randolph Co., NC, d. July 11, 1863, Marion Co., IN, md. July 28, 1814 Susanna Parr d/o Arthur & Mary (Morgan) Parr. He moved to Indiana in 1808 locating first at Jeffersonville, where he manufactured brick for a year, and then farmed for a man named Holman. He served one year on the frontier against the Indians, for which he was granted a land warrant for 160 acres. He did not receive the land, however, until forty years later, a short time before his death. Following Indian service he returned to his home in North Carolina where he remained for a year. He returned to Indiana in 1810 and settled in Washington County where he was employed in clearing land. In 1831 Noah came to Marion County, IN, where he purchased at different times at total of 640 acres of land, and at that time also owned 420 acres in Hamilton County. He settled on a tract of 160 acres in Perry Twp., Marion Co.
