Talford was born to Ferdinand Adolph Schubert and Annabelle Berry on October 12, 1925 outside of Banquete, Texas, near the old Rabb store. Talford attended school in Agua Dulce and Banquete as a child, graduating from Banquete Texas. He played on the football team among other activities. His steer won the grand champion at the Robstown Livestock show while he was in the FFA club his senior year.

Talford met his wife Dollie Mae Hutto in the 2nd grade in Banquete. They married after Talford entered the service during World War II on May the 5th 1944 and went on to have six children, Talford Jr., Marvin, Bruce, Richard, Rebecca and Robert.

Talford served in the US Army, Company I, 410th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division also known as the Cactus Division.

He arrived with the 103rd in Marseilles, France in November of 1944. The following is the chronology of other events of the 103rd:
  • November 9, 1944 arrived Docelles, France
  • November 10-30, 1944 Vosges Mountain Operations
  • December 1-4, 1944  Battle of Selestat
  • December 5-23, 1944 Alsace Campaign
Chat was wounded during December and out of a company of 30 men, he said he was 1 of only 4 of the original company to survive. Talford received the following medals for his service during World War II:
  • World War II Victory Europe Africa Middle East Theater
  • Bronze Star
  • Purple Heart
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Talford also loved working on his farms and ranches, staying active in his church life at both the First Baptist Church in Driscoll and Banquete, Texas. Talford retired from the US government working as a civil servant at the Naval Air Stations in both Kingsville and Corpus Christi.

Talford held filled various roles in the Driscoll Baptist Church in his younger days and supported both congregations over the years. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. He enjoyed singing and was the choir director at one time during his service to the Lord. 

Talford also served as city councilman in Driscoll for several years. 

Talford joins his parents, Ferdinand and Annabelle and his brothers F.A., Hilbert and sister Atulka in heaven. He is survived by his children, their spouses and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
