Johnson Family: Generation 1 - Casper Johnson b. ca. 1720, son of John Johnson or Jansen of Germantown, probably a grandson of Claus Jansen. Casper md. 1) Catharine (--?--) 1741; 2) Mary (--?--) who survived him.
Generation 2 - children of first wife
1. Mary b. ca. 1743, d. 8/?/1827 md. 1759 Philip Hinkle, brother of Charles who married Mary's sister Elizabeth. Philip Hinkle was born at Germantown in 1740, and died 5 mo. 15, 1814. He was a son of Anthony Hinkle, who for many years kept an inn on the Germantown Road in the district known as Cresham. Philip removed to Plumstead Township, Bucks County in 1766, and purchased a farm on the Durham Road at what is still known as Hinkletown. He was a blacksmith, and followed that vocation in connection with farming for many years, and in 1794 established a tavern on the Durham Road at Hinkletown which he conducted until his death in 1814. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, becoming a member of the Associated Company of Plumstead Township, August 21, 1775, and later serving in the regular line under Col. Dr. John Beatty, Col. Arthur Erwin, and Lieut. Col. Robert Robinson. They were not members of the Society of Friends.
2. Elizabeth md. Charles Hinkle
3. Christiana md. Edward Burk
4. Casper b. ca. 1753, d. 12/20/1832 md. Deborah Adamson. Casper was probably born in Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, and came with his parents to Richland. He became quite a large land owner, purchasing his first farm in Richland in 1787. It adjoined the 50 acres inherited from his father. He also acquired a plantation in Milford Township, Lehigh County, which he devised to his son James, and one in Haycock which he devised to his son Casper; also a plantation in Columbiana County, Ohio, which he devised to his son Joel. In 1829 he purchased from his son-in-law Hugh Foulke the farm of 70 acres in Richland, upon which Hugh and Catharine lived, and by his will devised it to his daughter Catharine and her husband Hugh Foulke for their joint lives, then to pass to their children. He died in Richland, 12 mo. 20, 1832. He married about 1755 Deborah Adamson, daughter of Thomas & Mary of Richland. She was born 12 mo. 8, 1755, and died 4 mo. 13, 1836. She brought a paper to Richland Monthly Meeting condemning her "outgoing in marriage" which was accepted and she retained her membership. her death is recorded on the records of the Meeting as is that of her husband. Although there is no evidence that he joined the Society, it is evident that they affiliated with the Friends.
5. Joseph b. ca. 1760; living in Skppack in 1800
6. Benjamin b. 1762; d. 4/18/1837 md. Abigail Roberts. Benjamin, born in Richland 1762, died there 4 mo. 18, 1837. He inherited from his father the greater part of the original plantation and lived thereon his entire life. He married 8 mo. 18, 1788, Abigail Roberts, daughter of David & Phebe (Lancaster) Roberts of Richland. She was born 2 mo. 14, 1767 and died 10 mo. 1827.
7. Henry b. ca. 1764; d. 5/23/1807 md. Hannah (--?--). Henry born in Richland born about 1764, died there 5 mo. 23, 1811. He purchased in 1789 the Burr plantation of 226 acres in Richland on which he resided for a number of years. However, he is said to have owned and conducted the "Green Tree" Tavern on the east side of Main Street, later the property of Samuel Kinsey. This tavern was a noted stopping place for the stages plying between Allentown and Philadelphia. He made a nuncupative will the day of his death. It was dictated to James & Benjamin Green who reduced it to writing after his death. He married in 1784 Hannah (--?--), a member of Richland Monthly Meeting. The overseers report her marriage "to a man not a Friend" at the meeting held 8 mo. 19, 1784. On 12 mo. 16, 1784, she offered a paper of condemnation of her "outgoing in marriage" which was held under advisement until 5 mo. 19, 1785, when it was accepted. The record of the births of her children appears on the records of the meeting, indicating that he also became a member. His son William was educated for a profession and was given no share in the estate for that reason. The second son Benjamin was adjudged the plantation in partition and lived thereon for a number of years, but seems to have never married. On the death of the father the widow and children removed first to Easton and later to Philadelphia, where the surviving members of the family were residing at the death of the widow in 1850.

- Map of Richland Township 1754, shows Casper Johnson land
- Map of Richland Township and other townships in Bucks County
Richland Township - The township was not organized until 1734. By this time there had been a large influx of the German element, which, as we have seen, predominated that entire section of Bucks county, continuing to do so until the present time. In 1729, the inhabitants of Richland petitioned for a road laid out "from near a creek called Sacking or Sucking (Saucon), to the place where the Quaker meeting-house is building, and from thence to the end of Abraham Griffith's lane." In 1730, thirty-two of the residents petitioned for a road from the "new meeting house to the county line near William Thomas's in order to go to Philadelphia by the Montgomery road." Prior to that time, the route to Philadelphia was by the Old York road, which, it was alleged, was "marshy, the ground not fitting for carts or loaded horses."
The names annexed to this petition will give the reader an idea of the resident property owners in the settlement at that time. They were . . . John Edwards . . .
The petition for a township by the name of "Richland" was filed in September 1734 . . .
Richland township is over five miles in length, from north to south, and about four and a-half miles in breadth. Its area is nearly 14,000 acres, the adjacent townships being Springfield, Haycock, Rockhill and Milford. In the northwest corner is a tract of a few acres covered with rocks, which emit a ringing sound when struck like the Ringing Rocks near Pottstown, in Montgomery county.
