2012 Dear Editor,
The FHS Class of 1958 will be having its 55th reunion. Graduate Robert G. Galloway will not be attending as he passed away last December 26, 2012. Robert is survived by his wife Susan of 46 years, his son Bob and his wife Sarah, his daughter Elizabeth and husband Bradley Schenck, and grandson Hunter Hyatt.
Robert was born and raised in Fairfield, oldest of two children of the late Gerald and Gladys Galloway and grandson of Abner and Flossie Galloway. Robert's sister was the late Marilyn Galloway. During the summers growing up in Fairfield, Robert worked for his family's construction company, Galloway and Sons. During his high school days he played the trumpet and enjoyed being a part of the FHS marching band, which he said opened up many opportunities for his future. He and other FHS friends had a band, The Mad Hatters, and played music of the big band era.
Bob attended the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, SIU Carbondale and Washington University in St. Louis. He became a licensed architect in 1968 and practiced through 2011. Robert worked at the international firm of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum, had his own firm RGA, Inc. and ended his career practicing architecture at the St. Louis Design Alliance.
During Robert's professional life he served as president of the American Institute of Architects, St. Louis Chapter and chaired the Craftsmanship Awards Committee. He led a public forum at the St. Louis City Courthouse on planning the future of the Gateway Mall leading to the Arch. Robert was also a director on the Missouri Board of Architects. In his practice he worked on many St. Louis office buildings, churches, university housing and private residences. Robert served as a deacon at Central Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member of the Christian Business Men's luncheons.
Robert had Multiple Schlerosis over the last 15 years and although he was disabled, he presevered to do what he could every day. He was quite a trooper in his battle and inspired others. Through earlier years Robert was involved in community activities with his colleagues, friends, children and other families. He was highly regarded by many.
Mrs. Robert Galloway
