In Memoriam - November 16th




1675 Josiah Hull in Windsor, CT the husband of Elizabeth Loomis.  The couple had eleven children: Josiah, John, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Joseph, Sarah, Naomi, Rebecca, George and Thomas.
 
1873 Mary Irwin the 3 month old daughter of Corbin & Charlotte (Lathrop) Irwin. 
 
1879 Elizabeth (Lambert) Clark age 80 the daughter of Jonathan & Margaret (McFarlin) Lambert in Lawrence Co., OH.  She was born in Harrison Co., VA in 1799.  Elizabeth married Cornelius Clark and they had eleven children:  Wilson, Abagail, Emeline, Asa, Elias, Margaret, John, Cornelius, Harriet, Levi and Leandra.  She is buried in Engle Cemetery in Lawrence Co., OH.
1992 Donald J. Morris, 73, Route 2, Dahlgren, died 2:30 a.m. Nov. 16, 1992, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Morris was a farmer and area businessman.
He was born June 16, 1919, in Hamilton County, a son of Joseph F. and Inez (Thompson) Morris.  He married Fay Erkmann, who survives.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robin Lyons officiating.  Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today and until noon Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro when the body will be moved to the church for visitation until the funeral hour.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Morris is survived by one son, Donald Wayne Morris and wife, Donna of Dahlgren; three daughters Mrs. Vearl (Jane) Young of Houston, Mrs. Ron (Flossie) Webb and Mrs. Darrell (Dorothy) Smith both of Wayne City; one brother Joe M. Morris of Dahlgren; three sisters Mrs. Ruby Hamilton and Mrs. Annalee Hall, both of McLeansboro, and Mrs. Sue Estes of Carbondale; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Morris a member of First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro, where he was a past chairman on the church’s administrative board for 21 years.  He served as past director and chairman of Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District for 12 years and was past member of board of directors of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation District based in Springfield.
Mr. Morris served as past director of Haw Creek Drainage District for several years, past director of Hamilton-Jefferson County Comprehensive Services and past director of Aden Community Consolidated School Board.  He was elected and served as a member and past chairman of Hamilton County Board of Supervisors for 14 years.
At the time of his death, Mr. Morris was a board member of Southeastern Regional Planning and Development Commission and on the board of directors of Hamilton County Lumber Co. and Hamilton County Grain Corp., both in McLeansboro.
Mr. Morris was selected as “Master Farmer” by Prairie Farmer Magazine in 1975 and received Hamilton County Future Farmers of America “Man of the Year Award” in 1975.
In 1991, Mr. Morris received “Ted Satterfield Community Service Award” from Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce for outstanding performance by a citizen.  He was a 32nd degree Mason, Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of Ahaza Shrine Club in East St. Louis.
Mr. Morris was a charter member of BPOE No. 1882 and American Legion Post 106.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro and will be accepted at the funeral home.
