In Memoriam - November 12th

1688 Deacon Thomas Judd in Northampton, MA age 80.  He was born ca. 1608 in England and immigrated to Connecticut in 1633.  Thomas married a woman named Elizabeth and they had nine children: Elizabeth, William, Thomas, John, Benjamin, Mary, Ruth, Philip and Samuel.  He married 2) Clemence. 

1856 John Speer age 71 in Oldham Co., KY.  He was born in 1785 Morganton, NC the son of John & Margaret (Cloyd) Speer.  John married Mary Grove and they had twelve children:  Elizabeth, Elvira, Francis, Samuel, John, Margaret, Susan, Marquis, Amelia, James, Martha and Julia.  John moved his family to Kentucky ca. 1810.  He served in Capt. William Keller’s Company in the 2nd Kentucky mounted militia as a drum major during the War of 1812.  John is buried in the family cemetery behind his home in Oldham Co., KY.

1976 Dorris Barnes passed away in the Fulton County Hospital in Salem Arkansas.
Dorris was a daughter of William A. and Vietta (Seitzinger) Hanes. She married Otto Warren Barnes and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1972.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church and was a cashier for the University of Chicago.
Her survivors include a son, Arthur Warren Barnes, Palatine, Illinois; a daughter Marylou Collamer, Cherokee Village, Arkansas, a sister, Ada Atkins of Lawrenceville; and sic grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dorris were held in the Emmons funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Rev. R A. VanGiesen officiated with interment in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

2000 Chester E. Whitlow, 75, of Fairfield, died at 9:37 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Fairfield Memorial Hosptial.
He had served as superintendent of the Fairfield Park District for 23 years, retiring Oct. 20 this year.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Nale’s Funeral Home here with Bro. Sonny Jackson officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation at Nale’s Funeral Home will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
He was born in Wayne County (Merriam) Dec. 16, 1924, the son of John and Flossie McCollum Whitlow.  He was first married to Maedell Johnson.   She died Jan. 27, 1987.  Later he was married to Wilma Jean Fulkerson.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church here.
Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife, two brothers, one sister and an infant son.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma; one daughter, Janice Whitlow of West Blockton, Ala.; one son, Gary Whitlow of Robinson; one stepson Ray Nixon of Fairfield; one sister June Williams of McLeansboro; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
