In Memoriam - September 23rd

1794 James Clark in Scotch Plains, NJ age 49 the son of James & Anne (Wood) Clark was born in 1745.  He married Esther Marsh and they had four children: Samuel, Phebe, Rachel and Sarah.  James served as a lieutenant in the New Jersey Continental Line during the American Revolution.  He is buried at the Baptist church in Scotch Plains, NJ.

1977 Mrs. Ruth Hendershott, 69, a former Wayne City girl, died at 10 a.m. Friday in the Rockford Hospital in Rockford, Ill.
She was a sister to Grace Lathrop Lewis and Edward Butler, both of Wayne City, and Mabel Robertson, of Sims.
Mrs. Hendershott had worked many years in Rockford until it was discovered that she was suffering from terminal cancer in late June.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday (today) at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Rockford. Burial was in that city.
She was born July 3, 1908, daughter of the late Morton and Anna Butler, of Wayne City.
She was married July 4, 1926 to Cecil Hendershott, a former Wayne County boy reared south of Wayne City.  They lived most of their married life in Rockford.  They celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Albert, one daughter, Lela Lameyer, all of Rockford; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Butler, of Wayne City; and Everett Butler of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Lathrop of Wayne City; Mabel Robertson of Sims; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were one son, Paul, one daughter, Mildred Nichols.
1991 John Harvey Burton, 80, of Rinard, died at 12:37 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 1991, at the Clay County Hospital in Flora.
He was a material services employee in northern Illinois for a number of years.
Mr. Burton and his wife retired to Burnt Prairie but had moved a year or so ago to the Rinard-Johnsonville area to be near a daughter.
Funeral services were conducted from the Johnson Funeral Home Thursday morning (today), with Bro. Oakley Miller officiating.  Burial was in Burnt Prairie Cemetery.  Visitation was held Wednesday night.
He was born in Wabash County Aug. 14, 1911, the son of James and Martha Meyers Burton.
Mr. Burton was married to the former Delores Colclasure.
Surviving are his wife; one son, John Jr. of New Lenox; two daughters, Laura May Burke of Wilmington; and Inez Barr of Rinard; one brother Rudy Burton of Asssumption; one sister, Geneva Orel of West Salem; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
2008 Ina T. (Morrison) Speer, 94, of Prospect, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at The Richwood in LaGrange.  She was a member of the Harrods Creek Baptist Church.  She is survived by her seven daughters, Phyllis MacMahan (Desmond), Judith Craig (D.L.), Norma Cheathem (Charles), Nancy Cheatham (Bobby), Linda Manley (David), Alice Rawlins, Donna Nation (Jessie); 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.  Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.  Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday.  Memorial contributions may be made to either the Lupis Foundation or the Hosparus of Louisville.
