In Memoriam - September 1st

1688 John Loomis son of Joseph & Mary (White) Loomis age 66 in Windsor, CT.  He was born in England in 1622 and immigrated with his family at age 16.  He married Elizabeth Scott and they had thirteen children: John, Joseph, Thomas, Samuel, Daniel, James, Timothy, Nathaniel, David, Samuel, Isaac, Elizabeth and Mary. John is buried in Palisado Cemetery in Windsor, CT.

1781 Hans Michael Goodnight killed by Indians near Harlan’s Station in Kentucky.  Hans was born in Germany ca. 1730 and was married there to an unidentified woman.  They had at least one son, Christian.  He immigrated to Philadelphia in 1752 and settled in Bedford Co., VA where he married his second wife Mary Landis and they had nine children: Margaret,
Elizabeth, John, Jacob, Rachel, Sarah, Isaac, Abraham, Henry.  The family relocated to Mecklenberg Co., NC where it is said that he was a signer of the Mecklenberg Resolves.  Hans Michael was in the process of moving his family to a cabin in present day Mercer County when they were attacked in the night.  He was killed, his son John was wounded and Mary (Landis) Goodnight hid in the woods. The Goodnights were traveling with several other families and several were massacred along with Hans Michael.

1852 John Maulding age 2 in Wayne Co., IL.  He was the son of Andrew & Hester (Hopkins) Maulding.  John is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.


1995 Dorothy (Shaw) Keen in Fairfield, IL.  Born in 1915 the daughter of Vern & Mary (Rainwater) Shaw she was 80.  Dorothy married Clyde Keen and had twelve children: Wanda, Betty, Leone, Judy, Vera, Jessie, Mervin, Roger, Richard, Deborah, Patricia and Rita.  She is buried in Ten Post Oak Cemetery in Wayne Co.
