1923 - October 12 - Black Mountain News (column) - John Barr has been helping Mr. Corliss with his hay the past week. Most of the hay is still in the shock on account of the rains.

- Ordered Jacob Speer, overseer, road from Fortrees Creek to Rowan County line and hands from Crersons old place and waters of Turners Creek work thereon.
- Ordered Robert Speers Mill already built on Little Yadkin be deemed a publick Mill.
- Ordered Brazalia Rose, now 15 years old, orphan of Brasalia Rose, deceased, be bound to Robert Speer until he arrives age 21 to learn art and mistry of a carpenter and at end apprenticeship be given set carpenters tools and suit woolen clothes and learn him to read, wright [write] and cypher.
- Order citation against Mary Nowlen produce her children and show cause why they not be bound out to some suitable trade and employment agreeable to law.
