Died: ca. 1713 Westmoreland Co., Virginia

Buried:  Westmoreland County, Virginia 

Married: (--?--) by 1680

Occupation: John Jones may have been a carpenter or cooper based on the items in his estate inventory.  There are more woodworking tools listed than farming implements.  It's possible farm implements were listed in the illegible portion of the inventory. He certainly had a farm with quite a lot of livestock.

1707/08 - Jan. 10 - Westmoreland Co., Virginia - John wrote his will:
In the name of God amen I John Jones of the county of Westm'ld being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind he mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testam't: that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and for my body I commend it to ye earth to be buried in an a christian manner at the discretion of my executors nothing doupting [doubting] but at the Gen'll resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and devise and dispose of the same int he manner and form following:

 Item I give and bequeath unto my son Nathaniel Jones one black mare branded H,  one cow and calfe, a gun, two pewter dishes, one sow with pigg one bason, three platts, one pott to be  delivered at age.

Iem I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Jones a feather bed, one iron pott, one Cow and calfe a dutch chest and the first mare colt that Nath'll Jones his mare brings.

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Jones one feather bed, one cow and calfe, a young mare, one brass kettle, two pewter dishes, one large bason.

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Jones a cow and a calfe and the first mare colt my mare Bony(?) bringeth, one sow w'th pigg, one gunn, one large pewter bason, one brass skillet.

Item I give and bequeath unto John Overall, son to Wm. Overal and to Wm. Overal junior each of them a young heifer. 

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Overal one young mare.

Item I give and bequeath to my wife one feather bed and furniture, one horse a side saddle, one warming(?), a brass kettle. 

Item I give one crown to my daughter Anne Jones.

I do constitute and appoint William Overal to be my true & executor of this my last will and testam't. All the rest of my estate equally to be divided between my wife and children and my land I give to be equally divided in quantity that is to Nath'l Jones and Charles Jones to them and their heirs successively for ever and not other.  Witness my hand and seale this tenth day of Jan'r. Anno qt. Dom. 1707/8 it was interlined before assigns - Christopher Thomas, Stephen Pilcher, Mary Pilcher

1713 - April 29 - Westmoreland County, Virginia - John's will was admitted to probate:
Westm'ld pt At a court held for the said county the 29th of Aprill 1713 The last will and Testamt of John Jones dec'd was presented into Court by Wm. Overal ext. therein named who made oath thereto and being proved by the oath of Stephen Pilcher one of the witnesses thereto (the others being dead) is admitt to record. And upon motion of the said Wm. and his performing wt is usual in such cases certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form.

1714 - April 8 - Westmoreland County, Virginia - William Overall made a supplemental inventory to John's estate:
A Supplemental Inventory of the estate of John Jones dec'd.  To 1 yearling To 1 hatchett To 2 hoggs of 3 yeare old To 1 fishing nett. William Overall. Return'd into court & recorded the eighth day of Aprill 1714. Pr. Tho. Sorrell DCC-- 

Children:
Nathaniel b. between 1687 and 1707 - .  Nathaniel was under age 21 in 1707.  A Nathaniel Jones made a will in 1753, probated 1754 in Westmoreland Co., Virginia - could be the same man.  The Nathaniel of the will married Sarah Howson and had children:
