Robertson Mystery Obituaries

I'm still filing, but I'm in the R's so there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Another large file because the Robertson family is prolific.  I've come across two obituaries that were probably kept by my grandmother Grace (Butler) Robertson. They have no newspaper title or date.

Obituary 1:

The Rev. A.A. Robertson Dies

Retired Congregational Minister of Chicago Former St. Louisan.

The Rev. Albert A. Robertson, retired Congregational minister, and a former St. Louisan, died Wednesday of a heart attack at his home in Chicago. He was 60 years old.

Born in St. Louis, he attended Drury College, later serving as pastor of churches in Illinois, Iowa, Colorado, and Nebraska.  He retired eight years ago to enter playground work, becoming director of the Austin Park Playground Association in Chicago.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Robertson, two brothers, William P. and John C. Robertson and three sisters Mrs. Mary Jarrett, Miss Minnie Robertson, a public school teacher, and Miss Ida Robertson, all of St. Louis.

Funeral services were held yesterday in Chicago.

I've been unable to find Albert on the census or on Find-A-Grave so far.

He may be a descendant of David Clark Robertson who was born in Ohio, Sept. 8, 1828 and died at his home at 219 Biddle Street, St. Louis, Mo. June 17, 1863.  The only known children are two daughters Rebecca and Luvella, but it's possible he had a son.

Obituary 2, no newspaper, date Oct. 1936 inferred from other sources:

Woman Killed When Son's Auto Upsets Near O'Fallon
William H. Vandeventer Was Taking Mother to His Home in Mexico, Mo.

Mrs. Lucy B. Robertson, 72 years old, Woodward, Ok., was killed Wednesday afternoon when an automobile driven by her son, William H. Vandeventer of Mexico, Mo., skidded on Highway 40 near O'Fallon and plunged into a ditch.  She died of shock and chest injuries in St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Charles.

Vandeventer, an automobile salesman suffered minor injuries.  He was taking his mother to Mexico after a visit of six weeks in St. Louis at the home of her daughter Mrs. John C. Morfit, 5531 Clemens avenue.

Mrs. Robertson was the widow of John D. Robertson, Woodward real estate dealer.  Her first husband was the late Dr. Edwin C. Vandeventer of Laddonia, Mo.  Funeral services will be held at Mexico this afternoon.

I have found Lucy B. on the 1930 census living at 1712 Fifth Street in Woodward, Woodward County, Oklahoma:

Robertson, John B. owns home $3000, 80, marriage age 70 (probably current marriage), IL, Scotland, PA, no occupation
Lucy B. 60 [65?], marriage age 50 (probably current marriage), MO, MO, MO, no occupation

I also found her on Find-A-Grave:
Lucy B. Mosby Vandeventer, Elmwood Cemetery, Mexico, Audrain Co., MO
b. Nov. 12, 1864 Audrain County, Missouri
d. Oct. 21, 1936, Laddonia, Audrain County, Missouri - the obituary above clearly states that she died in St. Charles, Missouri.

She is said to have been the daughter of John J. Mosby & Susanna Stubblefield Shortridge.  Lucy married Dr. Edwin Drake Vandeventer on Feb. 10, 1887 in Audrain County, Missouri. He died in 1910.

Her children were:
Sallie VanDeventer Morfit 1888-1989
William H. Vandeventer 1895-1972

There is no mention on Find-A-Grave of her marriage to John Robertson.

I have not been able to locate John or Lucy on the 1920 census.  I cannot find John B./D. Robertson on Find-A-Grave in either Woodward County, Oklahoma or in Audrain County, Missouri.

Anybody have any ideas about these people?  Please comment.
