ca. 1370 – 1499

1369 – 100 Years War 

ca. 1370 - William Allgar born probably in Essex, England

1371 – Robert II becomes king in Scotland

1376 – Edward III dies

1378 – Richard II becomes king at age 11 with John of Gaunt as regent; Pope Gregory XI dies which leads to the Great Schism, Pope Urban VI in Rome and Pope Clement VII in Avignon

1381 – Peasant’s Revolt – they take the Tower of London and kill the Archbishop of Canterbury.  Uprising in response to wage freeze in face of labor shortages.  The revolt crushed.

1382 – John Wycliffe completes first translation of Bible into English

1387 – Henry V born

1389 – Richard II age 22 assumes full power in England

1390 – Robert III becomes king in Scotland; Henry IV goes on Crusade

1399 – Richard II overthrown in England; Henry IV crowned king

William Allgar born in Essex, England son of William
 William Fitch born Widdington, Essex, England son of Thomas Fitch.  He married Joanna Martson and had at least two children. William died in 1466.
 1401 – William Sawtree, 1st English religious martyr burned in London

1406 – Robert III King of Scotland died

1408 – Henry IV wins Battle of Brabham Moor and ends domestic threats

1409 – John Alger son of William living at Lindsell Manor

ca. 1412 – Joan of Arc born

1413 – Henry IV dies; Henry V becomes king

1415 – Henry V invades France and defeats the French at Agincourt

1418 – William Alger living

1419 – Henry V takes Normandy

1420 – Treaty of Troyes unites England & France under Henry V; Prince Henry the Navigator leads navigation brain trust which leads to exploration around the world

1421 – Henry VI born

1422 – Henry V dies and Henry VI becomes king before his first birthday

1424 – James I becomes King of Scotland and attempts to ban golf

1428 – John Wycliffe declared heretic, his body exhumed and burned

1429 – Joan of Arc defeats the English at Orleans

1431 – Joan of Arc burned at the stake; Henry VI crowned king of England & France

ca. 1435 – Robert Allgar born, son of William.  He married Margaret.  Robert died in 1493.

ca. 1436 – John Fitch born son of William & Joanna (Marston) Fitch.  He died in 1514.

ca. 1440 –
Sir William Morehead of Lauchope born.  He married Jean Hay and had at least four children.
 Robert Tilden born in Benenden, Kent son of John & Johanna (?) Tilden.  He died there ca. 1479.

ca. 1447 – Thomas Fitch born Fitch Castle, Essex, England the son of William & Joanna (Marston) Fitch

1450 – Jack Cade’s rebellion of Kentishmen revolt against King Henry VI

1451 – Amerigo Vespucci born in Florence; Christopher Columbus born in Genoa

1452 – Richard III born

1454 – Andrew Morehead son of Sir William & Jean (Hay) Morehead was Bishop of Glasgow

1455 – War of the Roses over English succession begin; Gutenberg prints Bible with movable type

1457 – James II of Scotland outlaws football and golf as threat to national defense distracting men from archery practice

ca. 1460 – Peter Bradford born in Yorkshire.  His will was written Jan. 17, 1542/3 and probated March 19, 1542/3.  Peter had ten children.

1460 – Richard III defeats Henry VI at Northampton; Prince Henry the Navigator died

1461 – Edward IV becomes

ca. 1465 – Thomas Fitch son of John & Juliana (Westeley) Fitch born in Essex, England

1465 – John Gallop living – founder of Gallop family – was a soldier of fortune from Denmark or Sweden

John Tilden born Benenden, Kent son of Robert & Alice (?) Tilden
 William Allgar born Essex, son of Robert & Margaret (?) Allgar.  He married Mary Smith.  William died 1575 in Shalford, Essex.
 1476 – Vedestus Morehead son of Sir William & Jean (Hay) Morehead was rector of Glasgow University.

1478 – Sir Thomas Moore born

ca. 1480 – John Lathrop born Yorkshire the son of Robert.  He married Margaret Wade.

ca. 1483 – Peter Bradford son of Peter born in Yorkshire.  He died 1557/58.

1483 – Edward IV dies; Edward V king for a few months, kept in the Tower of London and murdered; Richard III takes the throne; Martin Luther born in Germany

1484 – Sir William Morehead living in Lauchope Mansion, Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland

ca. 1485 – John Bradford son of Peter born in Yorkshire

1485 – Richard III killed at the Battle of Bosworth by Henry VII, Henry VII becomes king; Katherine of Aragon born

ca. 1487 – Robert Bradford son of Peter born in Yorkshire.  He married Elizabeth and they had nine children.  His will was dated Nov. 28, 1552 and probated Oct. 5, 1553 in Tickhill, Yorkshire.

ca. 1489 – Katheryne Bradford daughter of Peter born

ca. 1490 –
Margaret Wade born in  Yorkshire the daughter of John & Margaret (?) Wade.  She married John Lathrop.
Thomas Fitch & Agnes Alger married in Essex.  Thomas born ca. 1465 the son of John & Juliana (Westeley) Fitch.  Agnes was the only child and heiress of Sir Robert Algore of Castle Brazenhead in Lindsell, Essex and his wife Margaret.  They had 11 children.  Thomas died 1514 and Agnes ca.  1533.
Thomas Aston born ca. Fole, Staffordshire the son of John & Elizabeth (Delves) Aston
 Henry Scudder & Agnes married in Kent. 
1490 – Christopher Columbus makes pitch to Ferdinand & Isabella for new world expedition

ca. 1491 – Agnes Bradford born in Yorkshire daughter of Peter

1491 – Henry VIII born

ca. 1492 – John Scudder born Stone, Kent the son of Henry & Agnes (?) Scudder.  He died in 1542.

1492 – Columbus inks the deal and heads for Cuba

1493 – Margaret Fitch born the daughter of Thomas & Agnes (Alger) Fitch.  She died in 1564.

ca. 1494 – George Bradford born in Yorkshire the son of Peter

ca. 1496 – Thomas Bradford born in Yorkshire the son of Peter

1496 – Henry VII hires John Cabot explorer

1497 – Henry VII defeats Cornish uprising over taxes

ca. 1498 – William Bradford born in Yorkshire the son of Peter

1498 – William Fitch son of Thomas & Agnes (Alger) Fitch.  He died in 1578.


1499 – Amerigo Vespucci sails to South America
