My grandpa loved his animals. There is a long story about why he and grandma moved back from Northern, IL to Wayne city that involved the college-kid son of the farmer grandpa worked for as well as comments from a friend about the bank prior to the crash of the 1930's.

One of my grandpa's friends, who was more well-to-do, commented to grandpa that "I don't mean to nose in your business, but if you have any money in the bank you might think about pulling it all out".

In short, the "know it all" college son of the farmer grandpa worked for forced grandpa to switch his team of horses. So, when the kid left, grandpa tied up the new team and went back to the house. He told grandma "pack up, were going home".

Grandpa took his friend's advice and pulled all his money out of the bank. They moved back to Scrub Hill and used that money to buy the farm just below Great Grandpa Joel.
