The surname Nothen comes from Patrick Williamson's biographical sketch in the Jefferson County history:
The mother of our subject was Nancy (Nothen) Williamson the mother of nine children. 
Census:
1790 - The 1790 North Carolina census shows no one with the surname Nothen.  There are two men with the surname Northeren living in Rowan County.  Of the two, Joseph Northeren is the most likely suspect to be Nancy's father.  There were 2 males under 16, 2 males over 16 and 3 females. 


There is also a Robert Northerly living in Burke Co., NC.  His household is comprised of 5 males under 16, 2 males over 16 and 2 females.

1800 not found on census, Nancy would have been 11.

1810 not found on census, Nancy would have been 21 and newly married

1820 not found on census, Nancy would have been 31, married to Henry with at least two children ages 2 and 9.

1830 Illinois, Wayne Co., age 41.  There were eight children in the household the oldest being 19 and the youngest 1.
