November 9th

Many happy returns:

1580 John Loomis baptized in Thaxted Church, Thaxted, England the son of John & Dorothy (?) Loomis.

New London, CT
1754 Elkanah Lathrop son of Lt. Ezra & Charity (Perkins) Lathrop in Norwich, CT.  He was living in Connecticut September 6, 1781 when the British & Tories burned New London on orders of his cousin Benedict Arnold.  This atrocious act stirred him deeply and with many others he aided in driving the enemy out of the neighborhood.  He lived in Franklin Co., VT.  According to his grandson’s biography He removed to Canada, where he owned a large farm, which during the trouble between England and the United States was confiscated by the British government.  He then returned to Vermont, there spending the remainder of his life.  Elkanah appears in the 1790 census living in Fairfax, VT.  No record of his marriage or wife’s name has been discovered.  He had at least five children.  Elkanah probably died about 1836 as most of his children headed west to Indiana about that time.  There is no record of where he is buried.
 
1858 Henry Gurley in Wayne Co., IL the son of Leonard & Susanna (Morehead) Gurley.  He died in Wayne Co., IL in 1913 and is buried in Bailey Cemetery.

1946 James Courtright & Madonna Willison.  James born 1920 in Geff, IL was the son of Stokely & Gladys (Fields) Courtright.  He and Madonna had three children.  Madonna died in 2000.  James died in 2009.
