Perry

I've been doing some checking on this . . .

The Rowan/Davidson County Perry's in the 1820 census:
  • Jeremiah b. before 1775 d. 1823
  • Jordan b. before 1775
  • Edward b. b/t 1775-1794
Jordan's wife b. before 1775 and he had 3 daughters still living at home. He could be Temperance Perry Parrish's father.
1 b. b/t 1794-1804
1 b. b/t 1804-1810
1 b. b/t 1810-1820

Jeremiah's wife b. before 1775, according to probate, his wife was Temperance. Some people have claimed that Temperance is his second wife. That he is the same Jeremiah Perry who married Frances Massey 26 May 1770 in Bute Co., and that Frances died b/t 1810 and 1820. It's possible for him to be the same guy and married twice, but I would argue that Frances d. before 1789 when Temperance Perry Parrish was born. Kids that have been worked out from documents in Rowan/Davidson Co.
  • Frances b. ? md. Burwell Rush, son of Absalom of Franklin Co. NC
  • Temperance ? b. 1789 md. Ezekiel Parrish - claimed by lots of people, still not sure
  • Jordan b. ?
  • Jeremiah b. b/t 1775-1784
  • Charity b. b/t 1775-1784
  • William b. 1810-20
  • Alfred b. 1810-20
  • Candace b. 1810-20
  • Nancy ? b. ? md. Jordan Watson - the other possibility is that Jordan is a grandson who was entitled to a full share of the estate
Disbursements from Jeremiah Perry's estate. The following received $28 each which seems to be the division made for the children and widow:
  • Temperance, the widow, rec'd. $84.00 total as guardian of the three minor children William, Alfred and Candace, divided by 84 divided by 3 = $28 per child
  • Temperance Perry rec'd. $28.00 - some have made a case that this is Temperance Perry Parrish, but why would she be listed as Temperance Perry when Ezekiel Parrish was the administrator and they had been married 18 years. I think this is the widow receiving a full share along with the children.
  • Charity Perry rec'd. $28
  • Jordan Perry rec'd. $28
  • Jordan Watson rec'd $28 - his wife was Nancy ? Is he a son-in-law or grandson entitled to a full share
  • Jeremiah rec'd. $28
Frances Rush didn't receive anything in the disbursement. It could be that Jeremiah had given her and Temperance (if she was his daughter) a settlement upon their marriage. Frances is still living.
The next person listed on the disbursement list is Ezekiel Parrish receiving $24.07. This is NOT a full share of the property. He was the administrator and this is probably a reimbursement for carrying out those duties. Amos Wright was administrator as well and he received $19.97 for court charges, expenses at the sale and articles furnished to the widow as part of her year's provision. Amos and Ezekiel also received $6.50 "to gathering corn."
Others mentioned that are intriguing:
  • John Perry - $8.25
  • Jordan Perry - $8.25 - son or brother?
  • On a note on Jeptha Perry (desperate) - $2.75 - who is this?!
Probate item 14 Sept. 1826 Ezekiel Parrish & his wife Temperance; Jordan Perry; Jordan Watson & his wife Nancy; Charity Perry; Burwell Rush & his wife Frances & Reubin Wright & Temperance Perry (widow of Jeremiah Perry dec'd.) to Temperance Perry for $6.00 paid to each person, for 240 acres on Uarie (the lands of Jeremiah Perry dec'd.) whereon the widow now lives.
What are the Wright's doing in this? They married into the Parrish family. Is it possible that the widow Temperance was a Wright?
Probate item 11 Feb. 1828 Temperance Perry widow of Jeremiah Perry to Philip Frank, Whereas the said John Ward & Ezekiel Parrish became the security for Temperance Perry for the guardianship for William Perry, Alfred Perry & Candace Perry legatees of Jeremiah Perry, dec'd., & whereas the said Ezekiel Parrish has removed himself & family to the State of Indiana Temperance Perry secures to James Ward the following property 240 acres on the waters of Uray adj. Robards.
More things to think about.
