(--?--) Warner / Werner?
Some people claim that this person is Franz Christian Werner, son of Johannes Werner
Born: between 1762 & 1789 somewhere in Germany. Born ca. 1780 if Franz Werner is our man.
Died: by 1862 - 1889 somewhere in Germany
Buried: somewhere in Germany
Married: by 1806 in Germany
Franz Christian Werner md. Elisabethe Spengler/Spenglerin in July 8, 1798, Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany. They seem a good possibility.
Lived: Hesse-Darmstadt in 1807 long enough to have a child. No evidence that he immigrated to U.S. In fact his daughter Katherine states in her divorce papers that she had no family in the U.S. She further stated that Jacob Erkmann was planning on going back to Germany and leaving her behind on her own.

Serfdom was not completely abolished until after 1850. By the 19th century this was less about ownership of people than a kind of share cropper situation. One paid tribute to a lord and not necessarily to the state or in addition to the state. Guild privileges took a long time to remove and allow private citizens to achieve economic autonomy.
The name Darmstadt first appears towards the end of the 11th century, then as Darmundestat. Chartered as a city by the Holy Roman Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1330, at which time it belonged to Katzenelnbogen. . . . When the house of Katzenelnbogen became extinct in 1479, the city was passed to the Landgraviate of Hesse and was seat of the ruling landgraves (1567-1806) and thereafter (to 1918) of the grand dukes of Hesse.
State of Hessen, capital is Wiesbaden, the largest urban area is Frankfurt. Two other major historic cities are Darmstadt and Kassel. . . . The name is a derivative of the early inhabitant tribe Hessians (Hessen, singular Hesse).
The territory of Hesse was delineated only in 1945, as Greater Hesse, under American occupation. It corresponds only loosely to the medieval Landgraviate of Hesse. In the 19th century prior to the unification of Germany, the terriory of what is now Hesse comprised he territories of Grand Duchy of Hesse, the Duchy of Nassau, the free city of Frankfurt and the Electorate of Hesse (also known as Hesse-Cassel).
The Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt was a state of the Holy Roman Empire, ruled by a younger branch of the House of Hesse. It was formed in 1567 following the division of the Landgraviate of Hesse between the four sons of Landgrave Philip I. The residence of the landgraves was in Darmstadt, hence the name. As a result of the Napoleonic Wars, the landgraviate was elevated to the Grand Duchy of Hesse following the Empire's dissolution in 1806.
