Maryland Gazette Jan. 27, 1757 - We are informed that the beginning of this month died in Baltimore County Mr. Jonathan Tipton aged 118 years. He was born at Kingston on Jamaica, which place he left while young, and lived almost ever since in this Province and had his perfect senses to the last, especially a remarkable strength of memory. 1726, April 5 - Maryland - Baltimore Co. - Will of William Tipton - apparently not our man.
In the Name of God Amen the fifth Day of April in the year of Our Lord God one Thousand Seven Hundred Twenty-six, I William Tipton of Baltimore County in the Province of Maryland planter being in perfect Mind & Memory Thanks be given to God therefore Calling now to mind ye Mortality of My Body & Knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to Dye do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say principally & first of all I give & recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it & for my Body I commend to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian Like & Decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the Generall Resurrection I shall receive the Same again by the Mighty Power of God & as touching such Worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life I give & dispose of the Same in the following manner & form.
Firstly I give to my Two sons Samuel & Mordecai Tipton all my Land which I now possess to be Equally divided between them at the years of Twenty One to them & their Heirs Lawfully begotten forever with all their tenements as shall & freely to be perfect & Injoyed by them but if they should Die with - - - Heirs then to fall to my Daughter Sarah Tipton & her Heirs forever & I desire that Samuel Tipton & Mordecai Tipton may be at their own Liberty when they arrive to the years of Sixteen and Confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament in whereof I have hereunto Sett my hand & Seal the Day & Year above written. On the Back of the aforegoing Will was thus Written Viz:
Balt. Co'ty: August the 2d 1726 - Came Thomas Tipton one of the Subscribing Evidence to the within Will & made Oath on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God that he Saw the Testator William Tipton Sign & Seal & heard him publish & declare this as his Last Will & Testament & that at the time of of his so doing he was to the best of his knowledge of sound & disposing mind & memory and that he subscribed the Said Will in presence of the Testator. Sworn to before me - Tho. Theredine D. C. . . Balt. Co'ty
at the Same time came John Price one of the Subscribing Evidences to the within Will & did solemnly declare before God & the World that he saw the Testator William Tipton sign sealed & heard him publish & declare this as his Last Will & Testament & that at the Time of his so doing he was to the best of his knowledge of sound & disposing mind & memory & that he Subscribed the said will in presence of the Testator.
