John Galbreath or Galbraith

Died: August 1800 in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania

Buried: Unknown

Married: 1) probable wife before 1767 & 2) Agnes (--?--) ca. 1778 Pennsylvania

Immigrant: before 1778.  Haven't found a definitive record. 

Records:

1790 - Cumberland Co., PA - a John Gilbreath family consisting of 4 males under 16, 1 male over 16, 4 females, 2 other free people, 2 slaves is a possibility.

1795 - John Galbreath wrote his will:
In the name of God Amen, I John Galbraith of Aleghany County and State of Pennsylvania, Being in perfect health and sound judgment.  And calling to mind that it is appointed once for all men to Die.  I do hereby publish this to be my Last Will and testament and first I recommend my soul to God that gave it, and my body to the Dust to be Buried in a Desent Christian like manner.  And as touching my worldly affairs I do will and bequeath them in the following manner Vizt. 1st I will and Desire that my funeral expenses be first paid out of my estate and all my lawfull debts be paid.

Secondly, I Will and Bequeath unto my son William the sum of twenty shillings.  And to my son James the sum of twenty shillings. And to my son David the sum of twenty shillings.  And to my daughter Martha the sum of twenty shillings. And to my daughter Elizabeth the sum of twenty shillings.  And to my Daughter Jean the sum of twenty shillings. And the remainder part of my estate I do will and bequeath unto my dear Wife Agness and my other nine children, John, Samuel, Mary, Sarah, Robert, Agnes, Thomas, Rebecka and Rachel.  Each of my said nine children to receive an equal part and after my said wife receives two shares of the said remaining part of my estate that is that she my wife shall out of eleven parts receive two.  And as touching a tract of land of four hundred acres And other personally estate Now for law, Belonging formerly to my son David's wife Margaret West recovered by law.  Which I estimate to four hundred pounds for the one half of real and personal I do will and bequeath unto my son William, James, David and Daughter Martha, Elizabeth & Jean each one of them twenty pounds. And the remainder part I will and Bequeath unto my wife Agness and other nine children each to receive and equal part.

And if said tract of land be recovered and should sell or amount to more than the estimated sum of four hundred pounds then each one to receive in proportion and if it should not amount to that sum that a deduction shall be made of each ones part.  And as I Now have a power of attorney from my son David to recover the said tract of land and personal estate in my name I do hereby allow my son David and his heirs to receive the one half of said estate real and personal if recovered he paying an equal expence to the law for recovering. And I do further allow my executors to pay to my son David out of the first money that now Becomes Due to me for the Lands sold to Hugh Hall the sum of fifteen pounds, eighteen shillings, five pene / halfpenny.  And I do appoint Joseph Scott Esqr. and David Smith to be my Executor of all my Estate Both real and personal.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety five.
