Died: September 21, 1843, Shelby County, Kentucky

Buried: Hunters Lane Cemetery in Shelby County, Kentucky

Married: Susannah March, June 4, 1797 in Salisbury, North Carolina

Occupation: Farmer



Immigration: From Rowan County, North Carolina to Shelby County, Kentucky ca. 1807.  He may have made several trips between Kentucky and North Carolina.


Records:

1790 - not found on census, probably living in Rowan Co., NC age about 13

1800 - not found on census, living in Rowan Co., NC age about 23

1807 - Charles age 30 bought land on Bullskin Creek, Shelby Co., KY, from Charles Lynce for $400 on May 30th.

1810 - Kentucky, Shelby Co., age 33 living with Susannah and eleven children.

1814 - Charles age 37 bought 84 acres on Bullskin Creek, Shelby Co., KY from James Knox for $1 on Nov. 21st. 

1819 - Charles age 42 bought 13 1/2 acres on Bullskin Creek, Shelby Co. from David Talbott for $80 and 5 1/4 acres on the Bullskin from James Spence for $21.

1820 - Kentucky, Shelby Co. a Charles Hinkle family with 6 males under 25 and 3 females.  May be living with one of his children and their family.

1830 - Kentucky, Shelby Co. Charles Hinkle living north of the road from Louisville to Frankfort.  This household consists of a male 20-29, a male 40-49, 2 females under 5 and 1 female 15-19.  The family owned one slave girl.

1840 - Kentucky, Shelby Co. It's possibly that Charles is the man 60-69 living with John Hinkle's family.  The household consists of a male under 5, a male 15-19, a male 60-69 and a female 15-59.  There are two female slaves.  4 people were engaged in agriculture.

1842 - There are a series of deeds from Charles Hinkle to various members of his family filed in Shelby Co., Kentucky.  This is probably Charles settling his affairs before his death.
Charles Hinkle for love and affection for George, Jesse, Susan, Elizabeth, Charles, Rachel, children & heirs of my dec'd. son Casper Hinkle slaves, James Cooper trustee for heirs.
Charles Hinkle inconsideration of the natural love and affection I have for George, Jess, Susannah, Elizabeth, Charles and Rachel Hinkle, heirs of my deceased son Casper conveys 100 acres on Floyd's Fork.

Charles Hinkle to son John Hinkle 102 acres on Bullskin Creek, 13 1/2 acres adjoining and 5 1/2 acres adjoining.  These represent the property purchased 1807, 1814 and 1819 by Charles Hinkle. He also given John all his slaves.
