November 20th - Feast of St. Edmund
King Edmund of East Anglia from 855 to his death on November 20, 869. Very little is known about Edmund. He was killed in battle with the Great Heathen Army aka Vikings led by Ragnar Lodbrok's sons. A church was built in Bury St. Edmunds in 1095 and Edmund's relics were moved there. It became one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations in England. During the middle ages St. George replaced Edmund as the patron saint of England.
