Edward A. Bergeson, 70, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:32 pm July 30, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born September 16, 1951 in Rochelle, Illinois to the late Walter Chandler and Edith Geraldine (Shaw) Bergeson. Edward married Phyllis Darlene (Phillips) Bergeson. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2010.

Edward is survived by his children, Teresa Johnson of Mount Vernon, Tony Bergeson and wife, Melody of Mount Vernon, Steven Bergeson of Temecula, California, and Stacy Shirrell and husband, David of Mount Vernon; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and siblings, Connie Kelchner and husband, Frank of Florida, Lona Berkley of Dixon, Illinois, and Randy Bergeson and wife, Brenda of Ottawa, Illinois.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bergeson.

Edward proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He retired from active duty with the Illinois National Guard. Edward was a loving man and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #141. Interment will follow.
