Betty R. Payne, 82 of Wayne City, Illinois passed away at 10:05 p.m. May 23, 2019 at Helia Healthcare of Benton, Illinois. She was born June 20, 1936 in Dodds Township, Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Allen and Ruth (Staggs) Sailor. Betty married Gene Payne on August 7, 1953 in Wayne County, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 37 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 9, 1990.
Betty is survived by her son Gary Payne of Bluford, Illinois; daughter Donna Hayes and husband Rick of Marion, Illinois; grandchildren, Mandy Robertson and husband Derek of Marion, Illinois and Jeremy Mitchell of Mount Vernon, Illinois; great-grandchildren Reeghan Robertson and Keaton Robertson; sisters Aldene Johnson of Edmond, Oklahoma and Brenda Howard and husband Larry of Washington, Illinois; sister-in-law, Treva Sailor of Washington, Illinois; special friend and dance partner, Jim Hildreth; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her stepfather, Frank Clark; and brother Bob Sailor.
Betty owned and operated a restaurant and worked at various places in Wayne City. She was of the Methodist faith. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 11 am to 12 pm at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. The funeral service will begin at 12 pm. with Melissa Garrison and Jeremy Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow.
