The early records of Prince William County are of interest to most Northern Virginia researchers because the county at that time encompassed far more than the current Prince William County. Prince William County was formed in 1731 from upper part of King George County and Stafford County. Prince William County at this time included the present counties of Fairfax, Loudon, Fauquier, Arlington, and the town of Alexandria.
These abstracts are of more then the usual value because they partially fill in the gap left by the burned records of Stafford County.
There were two parishes in Prince William County during the time period covered by this volume. From Occoquan Creek northward was Truro Parish which in 1742 became Fairfax County. South of the Occoquan was Hamilton Parish.

Thomas Owsley may be added to the Rangers already Listed in Pay to Range and Scout from Occoquon to the head of this River and doe humbly represent this their opinion by their Representatives now fairly elected and chosen to the Right honourable their majesties Lieut. Governour and honourable Councel of State assembled at James Citty to Treat about the affairs humbly Praying and desiring their honours to confirm the same may be confirmed by them if their honours shall see it fit and convenient it being the full Concurrence and whole desire of the inhabitants of these Frontier Plantations as may appear by Copy of their Petition now to that honourable Board represented.
Capt. Martin Scarlet and Capt. John Withers are by this Court Elected and chosen and humbly presented to Represent to their Majesties Lieut. Governour and honourable councel of State to be assembled at James Citty the 21st day of this Instant June the aggreivances and humble Petition of the Inhabitants of Frontier Plantations of this county which said Gent are Requested and desired by them to deliver up the same as before Exprest according to the Right honourable their Majesties Lieut. Governour command.
It is the full agreement and general Concurrence of this Court that the Clerk shall forthwith write a Letter to the Judge of Charles County Court to Signifie to him taht the Inhabitants of this County are now willing and ready to Joyne with them upon all occasions for the safety and Preservation of themselves and for their majesties Service against any Incursions of the Enemy Indians or any other Enemies to their majesties or any of the Liege Subjects whatsoever.
Capt. Thomas Owsley was this day Sworne as a Justice of the Peace for the County having first taken the oath appointed by act of Parliament instead of the oaths of allegiance and Supremacy and took his place of a Justice of the Peace accordingly.
Court held 14th July 1692 - Ordered that the action Inter Edward Ryley asignee of John Jones Plt and John Glasse defendt. shall be referred to the next Court for the said John Glasse the deft to Prove that the debt be paid or not for which he is sued by the said Ryley in his Qualifications afsd or else then Judgment to Passee against him the said debt with costs.
Court held 9th November 1692 - Maximilian Robinson vs. John Fleet upon Imparleance from the 10th of May 1692 and the said John Fleet the deft now not appearing in Court to make his Just Plea in Barr of the said action The action was dismissed at the consent of Robert Brent attorney of the said Maximilian Robinson, John Fleet paying this costs.
William Heaberd of this County humbly complaining sheweth that Capt. Wm. Heaberd your petrs Uncle late of this County deced did by his last will and testament leave a considerable estate unto your petr which estate together with the tuition and guradianship of your petr was left by the said Capt. Heaberd to the care an din the hands of Charles Baldridge in this county late deced which said estate both real and personal was according to the will of your petrs deced Uncle to be delivered unto your Petitioner when he came to the age of fourteen years but now soe it is may it please your worships that the said Baldridge in his life time some few months since delivered unto your Petr some part of the said Personal estate and did likewise by several contracts and bargains with your petr being young and not capable of bargains or contracting for any part of the said estate clandestinely take away from your Petr the most of what he had reced and now may it please your worships your Petr being come to the full age of fourteen years humbly prays your worships. . .
Court held 8th February 1692/93 - Joel Stribling of this county was attached to answer James hall of the county afsd of a plea that whereas James Hall at the request of the said Joel upon or about the 25th day of April this present year 1692 did send unto the said Joel for the use and service of Plowing one large good white stone horse of him the said James of the price of two thousand pounds of tobacco the which horse the said Joel at the time he reced him did faithfully promise to return to him the said James in 3 or 4 daies in good condition as when reced but the said Joel little regarding such his promises has not as yet returned to the said James his horse but on the contrary by his negligence has at tthe same time is informed Permitted by his negligence the horse to come by his death, by reason whereof the said James is damnified and damage has reced to the value of three thousand pounds of tobacco and caske . . .
And Joel Stribling the deft came into Court by George Brent his attorney and for plea saith not guilty and for Tryal puts himself upon the Countrey and the Plt likewise Therefore tis ordered the Jury Enquire the fact Jonathan Parker, Augustine Kneaton, James Man, John Story, Giles Vandacastail, William Downing, Thomas Chapman, William Bowrne, Simon Thomason, Richard Martin, William Burton, John Matthews which said Jury elected tryed and sworn to say the Truth of the premises doe say upon their oaths we find for the Plt fifteen hundred pounds of tobacco for the horse and damages.
Therefore this ordered that Judgment shall be entered on the verdict of the Jury and that Joel Stribling shall make present payment of said sum unto James Hall with costs. Ordered that James Hall shall make present payment of seventy two pounds of tobacco to the Jury with costs. Ordered that James Hall shall make present payment of the sum two hundred and forty pounds of tobacco to John Draper and one hundred sixty pounds of tobacco to Mary Draper for their attendance at court in suit depending between him and Joel Stribling with costs . . .
Court held 10th February 1692/93 - George Brent gent complains against John Chadwell in this of a plea of debt . . . the sum of six hundred pounds of tobacco and cask by account . . . And now foreasmuch as the said George Brent did Justly make appear in Court his said debt to be due from John Chadwell as afsd Therefore tis ordered that John Chadwell shall make present payment of the said sum . . . unto George Brent Provided that George Brent shall at the first opportunity and conveniency survey and run out or cause to be surveyed and run out the dividing line between the said John Chadwell and George Shepard being Tracts or dividends of land bought by them of Mr. John Waugh of this county with costs . . .
