George Harrison Lathrop, 84, formerly of Wayne City, IL passed away in Bourbonnais, IL on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at his daughter’s home, where he had been living for the past few years.

George was born in Wayne City, IL on July 3, 1938 the son of Bernard Lathrop and Mary Elsie (Shreve) Isle.  He worked as both a chef and a butcher for the Rend Lake Resort & Conference Center in Ina, IL; Illinois Institutional Foods in Rantoul, IL; the Ramada Inn, and was a soda jerk at Walgreens when he was younger.  He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War era.  He attended the Grace Community Methodist Church in Bourbonnais and formerly attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Keenes, IL.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he loved gardening.  He was also a great storyteller.  In addition, George was a talented artist who mostly made charcoal and pencil sketches, but also painted, sculpted, and made wood carvings.  He enjoyed teaching his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids how to play checkers.  He loved spending time with friends and family, especially with his grandkids and great grandkids.

George is survived by 6 children: Nena (Larry) Michaels of Urbana, IL; Tina (Stephen) Hudspath of Bourbonnais, IL; Frederick (Colleen) Lathrop of Jacksonville, NC; Ethelda Elaine (Mac) Drake of St. Louis, MO; Zina Beth (Mark) Tabor of Westchester, NY; and Anita Wiles (Scott Perccell) of Atoka, TN; 16 grandchildren:  Jessica Michaels, Cynthia Hudspath, Matthew Hudspath, Benjamin Hudspath, Samuel Hudspath, Keith Hudspath, Quentin Hudspath, Zechariah Hudspath, Lee Downen, Seth Williams, Thomas Lathrop, Lindsay Troyer, Nikki Lathrop, Kenneth Drake, Alexandra Hamilton, and Theresa Drake; and 37 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents: Bernard Lathrop and Mary Elise Isle, and a brother James Isle.

Funeral services for George Harrison Lathrop will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Rev. Bud Storey officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at 12 noon.  Interment will follow the services at Mt. Zion Methodist Church/Farnsworth Cemetery in Keenes, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
