[Falmouth founded in 1728 was a port town on the Rappahannock to serve the inhabitants of the Northern Neck.  It later became part of Stafford County.]
Among the business records at the Library of Virginia are the records of William Allason, a merchant, who operated among others, a store at Falmouth in Stafford County.  Within the collection’s over eighty volumes is a series of ledgers A-E, spanning the period from 1760 to 1767.  While transcribing or even abstracting the information would require more time and space than we can reasonably allow, the index to the first volume and the balance transfers to each succeeding volume will appear in these pages as time and space permits.  While these entries do not include all the names of individuals noted in the ledges, they do include those who had accounts with Allason.  Of special interest to researchers is his frequent notation residences and relationships apparently in an effort to identify his clients many of whom lived some distance from his store.  Researchers will find more information about the individuals listed here in the actual ledgers, which have been filmed and are available on interlibrary loan from the Library of Virginia.
Some accounts were carried to another page; only the first page number is listed here since the entry notes the forwarding to any additional pages.  Identified place names have been corrected to modern spelling; others are spelled as they appear.  Occupations and relationship noted in the account headers during verification of illegible or partially illegible names are included in brackets.  Some interesting variations between the index and the entry (such as Frogeld/Fougett) and even between continued (Seberee/Sibrie) were noted.
