to whom these present shall come, Greetings know ye that by virtue of a warrant issued from the late Lord proprietors office of the Northern Neck and in consideration of the ancient composition of one pound ten shillings sterling paid by John Devault the Treasurey of this Commonwealth. There is granted by the said commonwealth unto the said John Devault a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred & eighty acres by survey bearing date the twenty first day of October one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight, lying and being in the county of Hampshire adjoining James Hughs, Benjamin & Henry Fry's land & bounded as followeth, to wit, beginning at two ? oaks in Benjamin Fry's line, --- thence North fifty four degrees west twenty eight poles to two pines in said Frys line, thence south thirty four degrees west seventy poles to two white oaks in said Hugh's line thence therewith south thirteen degrees west sixty eight poles -- two drains to a gum by -- thence with his line again North eighty two degrees west fifty four poles to a black oak on a flat said Hughes corner thence south fifteen degrees west one hundred and twelve poles to a white oak and hickory said Henry Frys corner, thence south fifty seven degrees east one hundred and four poles to ---- white oak and hickory on the north side of a ridge, thence north thirty eight degrees east thence hundred and ninety five poles to a pine on a ridge, thence south eighty three degrees west one hundred & seventy poles to the beginning. With its appurtenances to have & hold the said tract or parcel of land, with its appurtances to the said John Devault & his heirs forever, in witness whereof the said Beverley Randolph esquire, Governor of the commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand & caused the lessor seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the twenty seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety one & of the Commonwealth the fifteenth.

I'm a DeVault from the Jacob DeVault/Tevault line. Jacob lived in the Hampshire County WV region in the mid/late 1700's. I suspect Jacob was a brother of Andrew, Nicholas and John DeVault.
