Petition of Sarah J. Wilson in the matter of the Estate of Alexander Wilson deceased, for Letters of Administration.
To the Hon. S.S. ----- Judge of the County Court of Clay County, in the State of Illinois.
The petition of the undersigned Sarah Jane Wilson respectfully represents that Alexander Wilson late of the County of Clay aforesaid departed this life at ---- in said County, on or about 16th day of January AD 1868, leaving no last will and testament as far as your petitioner know or believe.
And this petition further shows that the said Alex. Wilson died, seized and possessed of Real and Personal Estate, consisting chiefly of [left blank] all of said personal estate being estimated to be worth about $100 dollars. That said deceased left surviving him Sarah Jane his widow and W---- Wilson, Alex Wilson, Shelby (?) Wilson, Emily Wilson & ----- his children, as heirs. That your petitioner (being widow of said deceased, and) believing that the said estate should be immediately administered, as well for the proper management of said ------ us for the prompt collection of the assets, by virtue of her right under the Statute therefore pray that your honor will grant Letters of Administration to her in the premises, upon her taking the oath prescribed by the Statute, and entering into Bond in such sum, and with securities, as may be approved by your honor.

That we, Sarah J. Wilson and Thomas T. Reeves of the County of Clay and State of Illinois, are held and firmly bound unto the People of the State of Illinois, in the penal sum of Two Hundred Dollars, current money of the United States, which payment, well and truly to be made and performed, we, and each of us, bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, jointly, severally, and firmly by these presents.
Witness our hands and seals, this 20th day of January AD 1868
The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That if the said Sarah J. Wilson Administrator of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of Alexander Wilson deceased, do make or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased, which shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of her the said Sarah J. Wilson as such Administrator, or to the hands of any person or persons for her and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited, in the County Court of the said County of Clay agreeably to law, and such goods and chattels, rights and credits which shall be found remaining upon the account of the said Administrator, the same being first examined and allowed by the County Court, shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons, respectively, as may be legally entitled thereto; and further, do make a just and true account of all her actings and doings therein, when thereunto required by the said Court, and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will or testament was made by the deceased, and the same be proved in Court, and letters testamentary or of administration be obtained thereon, and the said Sarah J. Wilson do, in such case, on being required thereto, render and deliver up the letters of administration, granted to her as aforesaid, and shall in general do and perform all other acts which may at any time be required of her by law, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

Estae of Alexander Wilson deceased. State of Illinois, Clay County. In County Court January Term, AD 1868. The People of the State of Illinois, to John Sullivan, R.T. Logan and Benj. Goble of the County of Clay and State of Illinois - Greeting:
This is to authorize you, jointly, to appraise the goods, chattels and personal estate of Alex Wilson late of the County of Clay and State of Illinois, deceased, so far as the same shall come to your sight and knowledge, each of you having first taken the oath hereto annexed; a certificate whereof you are to return, annexed to an Appraisement Bill of said goods, chattels, and personal estate, by you appraised in dollars and cents; and in the said bill of appraisement you are to set down in a column or columns, opposite to each article appraised, the value thereof.

Know ye, that whereas Alexander Wilson of the County of Clay and State of Illinois, died intestate, as it is said, on or about the 16th day of January AD 1868, having at the time of [left blank] decease, personal property in this State, which may be lost, destroyed or diminished in value, if speedy care not be taken of the same.
To the end, therefore, That the said property may be collected and preserved for those who shall appear to have a legal right or interest therein, we do hereby appoint Sarah J. Wilson of the County of Clay and the State of Illinois, administrator of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits, which were of the said Alex Wilson at the time of his decease; with full power and authority to secure and collect the said property and debts, wheresoever the same may be found in this State and in general to do and perform all other acts which now are, or hereafter may be required of her by law.
